Northern1,
A good friend and work associate lost his 19 year son when he got drunk at college (frat party) fell asleep under a tree and died of hypothermia (around 40 def F. w/ rain). The loss eventually contributed to splitting the family. To bad there wasn't someone like you there to save him. Some people might not have wanted to get involved. Good work.

wow thats something and i'm sorry to hear that.

thats also the same conditions here except no rain although i know he was wet.the ground was frosted.

and dont get me wrong,i was pretty spooked out.i didnt try to wake him up because if he was alive i figured he was on something and i didnt know how he would react to a stranger standing over him.

i was also spooked at the thought of staring at a dead body before i knew if he was alive or not.

i've only seen one dead body and didnt even know thats what i was looking at until the cops came and knocked on my door and asked me if i had heard anything.
17 yrs old with a single stab wound to the chest.

at first i thought this kid was the victim of a hit and run.

i wonder what the police did to him.probably just took him home,if that.

Good Samaritan deeds are awesome nice to see you will stop for someone in need.
The -50 winters here mean you can freeze to death if the bus is a bit late much less if you pass out so every spring thaw we find a few.

Yeah, there the roadsides look like this:

The scary part is, that picture isn't too far off the truth for winter in the East Coast of Canada, especially Newfoundland Island!

I'll have to do some searching and see if I can find those old pics. I spent one new years with some buddies on the isand, and we woke up after a heavy snowstorm to find we were trapped in the house! We had to carefully dig our way out through one of the windows, taking the snow we removed and dumping it into the bathtub. We got outside, and all you could see of the surrounding neighborhood was some chimneys! It took over a week to get everyone cleared, and get power up and going again... good thing people on the rock think ahead and have wood stoves in their homes.

Something similar happened to me once. I was taking a friend out to dinner. There was this guy lying in the middle of the parking lot, right in my path. I sent her to call 911, and hoped I could remember my first aid training. I left the headlights on him, and got out. When I approached him he opened his eyes and said, “I’m sorry.” Then he wobbled to his feet and staggered into the night.

Overindulgence in some recreational chemical would be my best guess. I was glad I didn’t have to diagnose and treat some injury or collapse under those conditions. Dealing with the paramedics after the fact was more hassle than dealing with the “victim.”

I actually see a white sheeted, or yellow bagged body once every three months, or so along the shoulders of Los Angeles freeways. Lots of people, lots of cars, lots of accidents. Plenty of transients and working folk doing what they do along offramps too.

Similar story here, heading down in Massachusetts. When you're near the big cities with lots of fast moving traffic merging everywhere, it seems like there's a cross every half mile on the side of the road. The people drive like maniacs and their transport infrastructure is almost Escher-esque...

Ever see blood by way of a car accident by the side of the road? I have only caught glimpses of red three, maybe four times tops.
