I've always called those things bitter melons. My mother is Taiwanese, she loves those things but they are definitely not for me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

thanks for the lead, guys. looks like it's the balsam pear, which i never would have known. the "bitter gourde" is a member of the squash family and the skin is edible.

Eat it? Fine, you go first <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
go ahead its safe to eat and tasty too

[color:"black"] then you'll become one of us, void of thoughts and you will tell everyone else you know to eat them, hopefully they wont call in horndog with his bolo[/color]
