Congrats, recon. Just remember that as long as you are a Reserve Officer on active duty, you can be put on inactive status at any time for any reason at the whim of the Army. Strive to become Regular Army. I found myself a 32 year old out of work 1LT even with outstanding OERs. Good luck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Congratulations reconseed, I didn't realize you are in one of my old stomping grounds. Mahoneys ,Piney Flats, Wataga Beach and sugar moutain,Sycamore Sholes and all that good stuff. Man I miss that place sometimes, I'm going to try to be back up there next year do and see some of my friends next year. Well good luck and keep us updated. Rock on.....................

Wow you guys make me feel wonderful. thank you so much. It means alot hearing these good things from my boys on the Yard. I aint dying anytime soon so I will be around. Buying SR77 and taking it with me wherever we go.
HD - Im not going to be a Reserve Officer on Active. I am going to be an Active duty officer. I was never and wont ever be in the Reserves unless I leave active duty status after 8 years.

Well that is quite an honor, Recon. It has been a long time, but seems like I remember there were a few who got commissions as Regular Army officers. Good luck in your career.

Yea Vic, the way cadet command is doing it now is based on the OML, they pick the top cadets each year and pick up x number of cadets for 2LT spots in the active force. the rest that dont make the cut are placed in the guard and reserves. not to say that they arent good. they are very needed and some cadets actually do the SMP program where they CHOOSE to go Guard or reserves. I was in the top 2500 cadets in the nation that they picked up for Active Duty and I am PUMPED about it!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> We had around 5,000 cadets this year total in ROTC that were MS 3s and that are going to be 2LTs somewhere. But as for me, I am going to the ACTIVE FORCE and I cannot wait. This thread pumps me up reading it.

Well let's try it again, somehow my first post got lost. CONGRATULATIONS Recon. Remember, listen to the older, wiser (those that don't have a chip on their shoulders) Sgt's and LEARN from what they do/say like I've told ya on the Sr site. And always remember that just having your sheepskin dosn't mean you know more than those that have been there and done that! I am Proud that there are still SOME kids (no disrespect ment, SIR!) that still have values I grew up with, values that this nation needs, badly!
Best of luck, no matter what MOS (is that right, we used AFSC in the A F). and remember above all else, keep your head low and your A** lower!!!

I graduated Summa [censored] Laude from UGA. I had a chance to join the "Scabbard and Blade" honor fraterity but chose Phi Beta Kappa instead. I was not given a regular army commission, but Reserve Officer on active duty. Graduates from West Point were given regular army commissions. So if you got that, you are on your way, Recon. The number of regular army officers is set by Congress. If there is a Reduction In force, you will likely not be affected at all. Congrats again. That is quite an achievement to be selected an active duty regular officer right out of ROTC. If you really want to go all the way, go combat arms. That is where the Generals come from. Infantry, Armor, and Artillery. Wear those green combat leader shoulder tabs! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
