Any SR77 can rust. A lot of the Dogs have learned to prevent that problem with proper blade care. Others like myself just like the looks of the coated blade and the extra rust prtection it offers. Also some Dogs prefer the full height grind of the LE models to the sabre grind of the CG models.
I have a DMDC and keeping rust off of it hasn't been a problem.

The coating is put on the blades for those who want it as something to prevent over-excessive wear and tear on the blade, as well as assisting in rust and corrosion of the blade. Eventually, the coating will "thin" in areas and show the steel of the blade. The satin finish is there for those of us who like "shiny" blades; this of course means more care must taken to oil the blade to help prevent any degradation of the steel.
Of course, I've had the DMLE absolutely soaked for an entire weekend in the woods (miserable rain!), and only noticed a vague hint of brownish rust on the blade edge. Dans' steel seems to deflect rust better than most on the market today, and it's not even a stainless! Very good steel!

Besides those advantages, SY doesn't need to spend as much time making the steel under the coating nice = less labor = less money for us.

yeah, you're lucky, took me almost a year to get my DMCG, and that's in the secondary market.

Thank you gents, that's what I needed to know.
Of course it makes it harder to choose..!
My wife would stab me with the extra one if I got both! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

newDOGma, read this post: http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthread...ee7df3d3813d369It should put your mind at ease about getting the LE model if you like it better.

I'll buy one of each. Then a dozen roses for my wife, so she doesn't leave me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
