OK, Coley, I'm telling you: I think you're wrong. I think more information is good. I think open discussion of issues is good. I think discussions can be handlded with substance and integrity, and to assume that they wouldn't be would be demeaning to others. I also think that things can and do get resolved on the web.

I do agree that "badmouthing" is bad form, but I don't think that any negative discussion about other knifemakers or their products automatically falls into the category of "badmouthing".

Yup. If you go to Scrapyard's front page, somewhere it mentions Mr. Busse's fondness for "shock steel", to which family S7 belongs. An unusual choice for knives. It won't hold an edge as well as harder steels, hence why folks in the channel are saying that this other maker's product outdoes it in cutting performance. But it is certainly sharp enough to get the job done and has the advantage that your Scrapper is basically unbreakable under both normal and extreme conditions, up to and including some deliberate abuses like chopping concrete or batoning through mild steel. If it breaks (excluding deliberate abuse), it was a flaw in the material, hence why the company is happy to replace it. As far as Knives To Which You Will Do Bad Things, S7 seems well suited.

If you are looking for a small Yard knife to start your collection go find a SS4! Best little knife going imho. I guess, for me, when we are on a knife forum and the topic goes from quality of a knife to quality of a man, it sounds like badmouthing to me. Others may think different. We will have to agree to disagree.

I don't own a Barkriver. I have read much, although not all of that topic from the other forum (its way too long). I don't put too much salt into anything I read on the Web. Too much misinformation and outright BS. Who knows who is really telling the truth. And as I know personally, documents, etc., well, they can be worked over.

Finally, this wasn't meant as a shot at anyone here. I just didn't want to see it evolve into what it has elsewhere. I have lurked around many forums. They all have different personalities, which are a manifestation of the people who frequent that forum. I don't frequent any other forum like I do this one. I check into this forum everyday because I enjoy your all company. I just wanted to help keep it that way.

I see the issue with MS and this other guy as a business issue that really has next to nothing to do with the quality of the knives. So long as the knives are good ,he makes his deliveries and stands by the warranty I don't see how these business issues have any real place on a knife forum. I am sure you can find a few of MS's ex girlfriends(a couple of mine as well) who would be willing to complain about him online.

Some people are simply unable to accept that the realities of running a business can make certain things like coming up with 16 grand instantly, impossible.

I love Sr77 shock steel in the big knives. It has pretty [censored] good edge retention
at least with the Scrapyard heat treat as anyone who has reprofiled a Sr77 knife can attest. The real brilliance of Busse knives (besides the marketing)is the heat treat that can get Sr77 hard enough to hold a decent edge and Sr101 diff tempered for toughness.

If you like the Scrapyard style but want more edge retention definitly check out a diff tempered SwampRat. The hard part is quite a bit harder than the edge on most through tempered knives.

In case anyone is curious as to which one I am getting it is neither.

I have a flat ground Steel Heart Ergo with an 8 inch blade that I like very much
and with money tight i just can't afford the SOD although I am sure I will kick myself later. I am going to get one of the Barkie Stainless pocket scalpels as a companion knife for the SH-E.

just because you dont say something positive about someone doesnt automatically mean your badmouthing them.everyone doesnt have to like everyone or every thing.

also,i take everything i hear with a grain of salt,i realize there are 2 sides to every story and just because someone says something doesnt make it true.

but,if you've got 10 people all saying negative things or an extensive track record it cant all be falsehood and lies.

lynn thompson did something,actually 2 things right in front of me that i did not like.literally 2 feet from me when he did these things.i found them to be very distasteful and lacking integrity.at the same time he has done a lot for the cutlery industry.so i have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to CS as business and i admit that if they had something i just really needed or wanted i would put all that aside and get it.i always rave about their machetes and will be getting their SF shovel.

but if comes down to 2 similar knives from 2 different companies i will give my money to the one i feel has better integrity and not just in dealing with customers.they have no choice but to do that if they want to be successful in business.

i really dont like the idea of burning people to get to the top and there is nothing i cant stand more that arrogance.maybe its because i work for an arrogant company.

while business is business and things are going to happen,feathers will get ruffled and people taken to court,some people and some companies conduct business with more honor and integrity than others and i prefer to give them my money first whether it be concerning knife manufacturers or my local hardware store.

Was going to get both, but major repair bill coming on the wife's car in the next week.

I voted SOD, but am not sure if I am getting it yet. I do like it over the Bravo2.
