out6yder: I was reading some comments and if weight is your only issue with the SOD, you might want to see if you can find out the weight. (thought if you just don't like that size obviously you wouldn't like it) SY's tend to be pretty light. the LE would be under 16 ounces (the weight of the DFLE) easily. just to let you know. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have just added more tests with the Skinny version of the ASH: http://www.knifetest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=455&page=5out6yder: I was reading some comments and if weight is your only issue with the SOD, you might want to see if you can find out the weight. I'm pretty sure it is heavier than the Fallkniven A2 (it has approximatively the same thickness and length, but is much wider and with a thicker handle). However, I decided to get a SOD because I like very much its design and the materials are a lot durable. Best Regards!

Anyone want to compare the Ash-1 to a SOD?

I love my ASH-1. I think it's one of the most beautiful designed knives out there. The leaf shaped blade is particularly elegant while still being substantial. The steel, obviously, is first rate and I find Infi to be relatively easy to sharpen, though it took me long enough to re-profile the edge. Overall, great knife and just the right size. Anything over 7 inches becomes problematic to carry (for me at least), especially where other people are present. It holds a great edge too. Just one more point - I prefer the CG ASH (like mine) to the skinny, because it's a full flat grind and with a convex edge bevel cuts like a demon. But this is just a personnal preference. Here's mine: ![[Linked Image from overlandrover.net]](http://www.overlandrover.net/ASH_Sharpness_04.jpg) I agree. When the Ash-1 cg is convexed, it is unbelievable how much better it cuts. And it cuts well. It is also my best stabber by far. It stabs better and deeper than my hell razor or my sfnole. Quite an amazing blade.

I don't care for the Standard ASH, but I like the feel and balance of the Skinny ASH. I may regret it, but I'm probably going to skip the NMSFNO; I've already got an abundance of knives in that class. I didn't need NMFBMs either, but couldn't resist that "Bigger, Badder, BC advertising", which is why I'm saying "probably". It's been a long while since this posting. I ended up buying a couple of the tanker gray NMSFNOs when they appeared in the company store, then I liked them well enough that I bought a couple more tankers just before they went out of stock. Then I bought a hand-shaped tan Micarta/bama clay NMSFNO at Knob Creek, which I liked even better, causing me to jump on a hand-shaped black Micarta/green from the Exchange, then a hand-shaped black G10/arctic white NMSFNO from eBay, and finally another hand-shaped black G10/arctic white from David Brown. I swung all the way from "I'll pass on that" to buying 8 NMSFNOs before the dust settled. This whole INFI addiction thing can drive ya absolutely nuts.

I have a CG ASH-1. It is a knife that people pick up and say, "What the heck...?" It seems bomb-proof.
It's a relatively short blade for how thick it is, so it's easier to carry but heavy for it's length. This also helps it chop well for a short blade. The handle is secure but, does not allow you to slide your hand down for more leverage while chopping. I left mine stock and it slices fairly well too. That being said, I'm sending it to Nate to put a convex edge on it.
I'd describe it as a compact indestructible jack-of-all-trades.

Good reads. I traded into a ASH-1 that should be here soon. I can not wait to see what it does.
