After mulling over it some more, & taking in all the great advice you men are giving me. I have decided I want INFI steel this time around. I will also keep this knife blade to 6"(min) to 7"(max). I know I said between 5.25-6.5" before, but after thought, on what really gels as a dedicated survival for me. I feel 6"(min. 6.5" being just about perfect) offers me the ideal package.
The mention of a 7" blade would have to be in the right shape/lines(bowie/clip point or spear point) for me look into it. This is where the Hell Raiser looks alright? Although I not sure how all those blood grooves would work batoning & chopping? But there is not doubt it would work great chopping up game, if needed .
Narrowed it down =
1). INFI.
2). 6-7" blade with Bowie/clip point or spear point design.
3). MAGNUM style MICARTA handles. The standards just don't gel for me in this style of blade, nor do I like the G10 on the bigger Busse knives. As far as grip is concerned anyway. Although my FAT GW G10 is superb, but this has different purchase in-hand & use.
Busse G style handle or standard doesn't really worry me ATM, just as long as it's fairly fat in-hand.
4). Thinking .225-.275" thickness, but I see the Skinny ASH-1 is .195". And being INFI, I'm sure it will not be an issue. Although this knife WILL see heavy use when I hit the high country!
If you think .195"(or less) INFI on the Skinny ASH-1 is not up to the task to abuse, please talk up.
Contenders ATM. Skinny ASH-1, LE ASH-1, Jack Hammer & Hell Razor.
I didn't mention the CG ASH-1, as I feel .320" blade thickness is too thick for me. And I'm not sure whether the JH & HR can be sourced with MAGS MICARTA?
Please mention any other Busse I have forgotten about
Thanks lads
PS-I will also say. I MUST take picking this knife seriously, as I'm only going to do this once. I don't want to get it & think it doesn't gel. And because I cannot try before I buy, it's tough at times, & it can become $$$. So feel free to make suggestions within the 6-7" blade frame.
