I don't know how strong the SOD will be but if you want a SOD for your CW let me know
With all jokes aside, that is really the first time I see something like this happen to a rat. I have cut all kinds of stuff with my SR knives but breaking the tip just by cutting wood O>O
Eric will make it right for you so no worries there.
I can almost say go ahead and try the tip test with the wood again when u get a replacement...I'm sure stuff like this won't happen again...

I thought someone would say that . If I do get a replacement, I will just sell it here in Oz. No more hard use with my SR, no(I'm stressing just thinking about it , I'll be sticking with Scrap Yards & Busse, they have never let me down!

I'm really surprised to see that happen with the CW too...
It's hard to imagine that it's anything but a rare occurrence though. Although everything has it's limits and depending on the circumstances anything can happen from time to time. Oak, Locust and Bodark are some of the hardest woods that I have around here, and I've always taken great care in how I used my blade tip when dealing with them.
Scrappers are hard to beat, It's always good to hear when they're tested to the extreme and come out smiling.

I think I'd have to go with Bruce on this one. I have beat the heck out of my Chopweiler. I don't recall ever using the point to pry and dig in wood with, though. Even if the harder tempered part of the blade includes the point, which it does on mine, I would not expect the tip to fail doing what you did. SR knives are tough. I'd get a new one and then put it to the same test.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

If Eric said he's never seen anything like that before, I believe him. And I would absolutely, positively try the tip test again when you receive your replacement, Tezza. There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER to believe that what happened to your Chopweiler will ever happen again.
Any knife can fail, including INFI knives and SR77 knives. The odds against it happening to any single knife are remote. But failures DO happen. And this time it happened to you.
I think you owe it to yourself to prove that Swamp Rat knives are as tough as they're cracked up to be. If you men say it was a fluke, well I have to believe you then. But that still doesn't change things for my son & I when we are out bush with our knives, depending on them. No sir, I play the percentages. Scrap Yard & Busse from now on. I will just keep using the CW as a firewood batoner, as that's all it's good for now. Because I have been told that SR do not pay shipping back to the factory under warranty. I'm still wondering why SR want a broken knife. I can understand US owners doing this but not international, surely not. A few photo's, a video would be proof enough.

Your decision is understandable, Stalker. Even if it is a fluke, and I think maybe it is, your confidence in that steel has been shaken. I really like the superior edge holding of the SR101, but if maximum toughness is what you seek, that SOD should be the one.

I knew I should of bought two when the Aus dollar was 66. ATM it's down to 62 cents . I will see how this pans out. Like I said, my son is getting the SOD. And I wanted him to have something special, that I didn't have. When we both have the same thing, it's not so special. I'm sure you can see my point. And one of the reasons why I bought this CW. I wanted the SOD bad, but when my son showed interest in it, I backed off. Plus I have my S6, he doesn't. S6 is pretty close in a way, I guess. If I could go back I would buy the Outlaw.

[quote]I'd suggest you write Eric back and ask him to reconsider his shipping policy in your case. If it really is true that the damage to your knife has never been seen before, Jerry needs to inspect it up close and personal. And the worst thing Eric could say is "no", in which case you'd be no worse off that you are right now. Will do mate, first thing tomorrow. 2.30AM here ATM & I'm beat. Talk tomorrow men. As always, great chatting

I just get the feeling that SY steel has more flex & IMHO is a better steel! Someone please clarify this for me...I was under the impression that the reason we pay more for SR101 is because it does have better flex? Is that not the case? I remember seeing pics of a Camp Tramp and a Dogfather in a vise and the CT looked like it bent farther without taking a set.
