It makes perfect sense from a business standpoint to bring out another knife for sell if the work force allows. Like you guys said, we are basically "guessing" right now...

JYD #84 This is my rifle, and that is my SHTF Busse knife.

Why doesn't Scrap Yard do something revolutionary and make available all of the knives all of the time that they show in the "Our Knives" section?

Because they'd be inundated with so many requests for Dogfathers, SS4s, and all the other faves, they'd be unable to actually fill those orders in any reasonable time. They're not a huge factory; they can only do so much work at a time. Add onto that the military contracts they're working on, and you'd end up ordering a knife, and maybe seeing it shipped to you a year later.

That is Busse's way of marketing. Jerry's behind it all and he's a smart man. There's usually more demand then supply. Even with the new business plan, somewhere down the line when they cease production of the SOD, new people will come along and want it when it's not around. If they really wanted to, they could get more CNC machines and hire more grinders and mass produce like crazy.

But if they did that, then the product would become commonplace, and there wouldn't be as much hype among knife enthusiasts over Busses' product line. Good point, Mt Pink. I knew I liked you for some reason, you hyperactive little ninja turtle!

Don't know about all y'all, but, I *don't* need for the company to offer unlimited product. I've got things that haven't gotten done...need a new well pump, need to paint the interior of the house, more chrome on the motorcycle, wine & dine the women, pay down the credit card. None of that is getting done because of my knife fetish!

Even though it's the gift-giving season coming up, the first thing I do when I wake and last thing I do when I go to bed is to glance at the Bladeforum exchange!

Stay away from the 'puter, stay away from the 'puter, stay away...

and there wouldn't be as much hype among knife enthusiasts over Busses' product line

proven performance duplicated independantly by thousands of customers isn't "hype".

They could ramp up production but that invariably leads to decreased quality control as soon as the core people cannot directly interact with the entire operation anymore. Gradual growth with maintained quality is possible becuase it gives them time to properly train everybody in the middle, and allows junior people the time they need to grow their skillsets before ascending into higher responsibility.

There is plenty of room for growth at the various pricepoints because nobody else matches price or performance of Sr-77, Sr-101, or INFI at the same pricepoint, but another thing to consider is that because the knives are virtually indestructible, the population continuously increases.

Agreed, but from a business perspective, they make more money per inch of INFI then SR-77, so they keep pushing INFI while we get the scrap.
