I haven't hung out here in a while, but I do indeed have a tentipi.

Drop me an email and I can fill you in on all you want to know. briangandrews at comcast dot net.

You can also check out my blog and do a search on tentipi and you will find some cool stuff.

Kifaru makes the very best tipi style tents. A bit pricey, though. - http://www.kifaru.net/TIPI.HTM

I beg to differ. I know Kifaru makes good stuff. I know this is going to come off sounding like I am an [censored], but I seriously doubt that you have ever seen a Tentipi in person. How can you make a wholehearted recommendation without even seeing one of the items in question? The only reason I say that is the Tentipi is so rare in the US, that many have not even seen one.

I have seen and use both and Kirafu does not even compare.

Both what? You didn't compare it to anything.

Yes, you do indeed seem like an [censored]. I *own* one of the Kifaru 4 man tipis, and haven't just 'seen one' like you say. I won't argue about it, though. If you say you like another manufacturer's product better, then so be it...but you've NO basis to cast dispersions on the experiences of others. I used the tipi extensively on hunting trips and I liked it fine. But, most of what I do now is purely year-round backpacking with very little hunting, and so I now prefer a lighter shelter.

I've got a friend who does 4 season expeditions. He'll go out for 8 to 10 days at
a time in any season. A couple of years ago, he was a member of an 8 man team
hat did a January hike across the Canadian Rockies from Fairmont on the British
Columbia side to Banff on the Alberta side. Took them about 9 days to do it.

Last fall, he went in and did an 8 day hike on Cape Scott at the very northern tip
of Vancouver Island in BC. To top it all off, my friend is 66 this year, and he's
finally decided that he is going to slow down to only a couple of trips a year.

I'm almost 15 years his junior and I can barely keep up to him when he's going slow.
It's embarrassing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

I have seen some folks like that on my rafting trips- they are great. Some are in their 70s and still storming castles !!

Yep. My friend the "hiker" is the youngest of the bunch he hangs around with.
He told me of a night spent on the side of a cliff about 2/3 the way up a
mountain. 3 of them were camped on a 2 foot wide by 20 ft long ledge for
the night.
He was the youngest of the bunch and the other two were in their 70's.

Impressive

Don't have to worry about that. My doctor retired last year, and I haven't
been able to hook up with another one. Now, all I do is go to the clinic,
or head to the hospital.
If it's really bad like my mother was a couple of months ago, I would stay
at home and phone the ambulance.
In today's world, the way the politics of our land is, this is the way it goes.

Hehe...that's right...no political rants here....just good old knife talk.
Now, if you'd put a picture of one of those bankers running off with a SOD
in his hand...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
just kidding <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
