I guess this would relate to more " urban survival" but here goes. With economy and such getting kind of weird I notice that many are stocking up on ammo and guns. I was at the store the other night and the gun department was just about sold out while everything else was barely looked at ? So- my question is " What is the best gun to have in the house for protection" ?. Also- maybe best ammo or rounds for one you pick. You know- the gun you grab when you hear something or ? A friend has suggested a Ruger 9 mm with 15 shot clips 115 grain hollow points. What say you guys ? Thanks

if I hear something downstairs at night I grab the HK uspc 9mm. It might not be the best choice but its small and works well around the house.

Dude I would go with a Remington 870 with 2 3/4 inch shells of OO Buck, or smaller. I feel that most handguns would overpenetrate unless you use frangible ammo. Intimidation factor is also high with a scattergun. Just my 2 cents.

If you have to choose one a shotgun is probably the way to go. Price to performance ratio and all...

I have lots of guns. My favorite for home protection is an inexpensive Mossberg 20 ga with a pistol grip.

Bought one of these about a month ago.
Very intimidating thing to have pointed at you.
Have to make a mental note though, to go get more shells though.

My first choice would be a short-barreled 12 gauge shotgun with #4 buckshot, which my wife has on her side of the bed. I have an 870 Remington Express Magnum on my side, with #4s and Centurion duplex loads(6 #1 buckshot and 1 .65 cal. ball). I got my trusty mossy 590 with knoxx pistol grip. Nothing but 00 and slugs for me. Now if i could only get a DF bayonet for it lol.

I live in a kinda cramped apartment so moving around with it isnt to pleasent but its possible. Im looking into a nice 1911 at the moment tho. For me a handgun would be much better due to the crampness at my place.

My H&K USP 9mm full size is closest to me at night. Spear Gold Dots and Federal Hydra-Shoks. But I do own an 870 express.
