Dodge keys make a good thrusting tool--at least my truck key does.

I carry a folder clipped to the inside of my pocket almost every day, and I
use it for all sorts of tasks. One thing that I've never thought of using
it for is self defense.
The reason for that is, is that I could never get it out of my pocket and
open fast enough for it to be effective.
A case can be made for taking it out in advance, but then you would have a
very hard time convincing cops, judge or jury that it was a self defense
situation.
Nope, even though I carry the knife, it would probably be my last choice
for self defense.
Don't forget though, that I live in Canada. Handguns are restricted weapons
here, so you can pretty much rule out carry, or having someone pull one
on you in a robbery...etc...

One thing most people overlook as a weapon: glasses.

I remember a fight back when I was in high school.

This guy had another in a headlock, holding him in place while his buddy laid the punches to the poor guy. The "victim" managed to maneuver a hand to grab the shades off the face of the guy headlocking him, and snapped an arm of them off, and used it to jab and poke him in the face. The guy let him go in pure shock and pain, and the guy immediately swung around to plant a punch to the guys' throat and drop him. When attacker #2 pulled a knife, the guy leaped forward and jabbed the glass' arm right into the guys' stomach before he could even react.

Where theres' a will, there will always be a way.

The alternative is no will. No will, no way!

This is what separates the survivors from those who don't.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

Imagine a 10 foot circle around you.
Now gradually collapse that circle in towards you until you feel that it's too
close and actually feels confining. For most people, it is about the length of
your arms. This is called your personal space. When anyone gets within that
space, the short hairs on the back of your head better be going up, and you'd
better be ready for anything
The more you train your senses, the more you become aware of how easy it is to
close the distance for an attack, the larger your circle gets.

You need to check out the Spyderco Waved Endura & Delica. They open as soon as it leaves your pocket, faster than a switchblade, & legal too. Only needs one hand to deploy it. There are vids demonstrating on YouTube. I have a waved Delica & I love it. I want to get a waved Endura now too.

I think that the Wave opening system is not allowed in Canada Andy, but I
could be wrong though and will check it out to make sure.

My Lapulapu on the top right (green handle) is legal to carry, and very easy to
pull from the pocket. You open it by brushing the flattened top part of the
thumb ramp, when closed, on your opponent's body. It has the effect of opening
and cutting in one move, and it works.
I stupidly tried it on my arm one day. Luckily I was wearing a thick leather
jacket at the time, but it sliced right through the sleeve.
