Right on Vance! The blade tip was the one thing that I did not care for on the Camp Tramp - it was too rounded or what I refer to as "bull-nosed". Dan was absolutely right on target with the SODs - I love em'!

Great review HD....your ability to have the main "comparison" knives to hand really makes the review, as always, special. Looking at some of the edge profiles on your Ratweiler and Chopweiler I was initially thinking the SOD would be struggling to match those...the Camp Tramp and BRKT knives being convexed grinds I could'nt tell...but once I saw the reprofile job you did on the SOD I thought "fair enough"! It looks a great re-profile job!

I did'nt go for a SOD because I had spent a fair bit at Knob Creek getting two FSH's...plus a number of DF's...but if the SOD LE was up on the site when I first came here it would have been the first knife I bought to replace my Voight knife...it looks an ideal candidate...and "value" wise... absolutely
"perfect"!

Not only is Busse's SR77 tough, it has amazing edge retention for S7. Mike Stewart borrowed a Scrapper and did some serious chopping with it. He was impressed with the performance, and Mike is serious about edge retention. He remarked that Busse got the heat treat on the S7 "On the money". I would say that the SOD is probably even tougher than the Camp Tramp all the way to its pointy point!

"There's got to be a Jeep in this junkyard somewhere . . ." And correct me if I'm wrong, Vic, but wasn't it you who reported that SR101 holds a better edge than SR77 does?

Yes. And it does. But edge retention and toughness are not the same thing.

That in itself means alot since the CT can cut thru car doors

Well I have a Jeep, but I'm not going to chop it up with either the Camp Tramp or the SOD. Now that old Dell computer that I was saving for the 44.....

...You've got to ask yourself a question. If Jerry felt that SR77 was superior to SR101, why didn't he decide to give SR101 to Dan instead of reserving it for Swamp Rat . . . his mid-grade (and higher priced) knife line?

Maybe S7 was cheaper than 52-100. Or maybe he was just so thrilled with the performance of his SR77, he wanted to use it somewhere. In the larger blades, he can through temper with the S7, but does differential tempering for the SR101 to improve tougness of the blade. Maybe it costs more to do that. I really don't know. I know I like both steels just fine.
