Art, that is cool. Which knife is in the sheath?

Thanks Coyote! I kept my word, I got an x-sheath. Not just any x-sheath, either.
The Rainwalker Proto Kydex X-sheath, check it:

That looks great, did you come up with the idea or was it Jeff?

Nice. Being a lefty, I can appreciate a multi-position sheath. I try to get blades setup for ambi carry whenever I can.

The idea that is.
When I first joined this forum it was when the original dumpster mutts were sold and I was lucky enough to get one and I sent it to Eric from OST for a sheath. I love the rig and as a come what may set-up I don't think you can get much better.

However when it comes to sheaths my first love is leather and for a long time I promised myself a Rainwalker sheath. Now with two kids in post secondary education that I am paying for, I have to carefully consider what I spend my money on.

I knew I wanted Jeff to make me a sheath, but what type, then I saw Horndog post a picture of a knife and sheath set-up that I really liked. I already had the knife, so I contacted Jeff and here is what I got.

Now I love the looks of Rainwalkers more ornate sheaths such as the feather one he made for PoP and the machete one for Horndog. But for myself I was looking for a high quality sheath of simple design that put function before looks.

That is NOT what Rainwalker delivered.

What he delivered is high quality and in my opinion as beautiful as it is functional.
I don't know if it shows on the pictures you see, but the design he put on the sheath is done completely on both sides even where it is covered by the belt loops.
Attention to detail in places that are not normally seen is the mark of a craftsman.

I now have a knive/sheath set-up that can be worn in multiple positions, is of high quality and very good looking. I would say just like me but I am just to honest and you may have seen pictures

When I saw the Headline for your thread I thought..."oooh you are in big trouble and there will be no saving you"...you got me Really glad to see it was an idea and Horn Dog approved

Excellent JOB on those sheaths....I also would be afraid I lose a knife without a strap/security device. I'm TOO active in my movements (combat,SaR,....etc) so the RainWalker Kydex is the MOST secure for my needs.

I've got a kydex sheath for my mutt by on scene tactical and I don't know if it is really more secure then the leather sheath by Jeff.
I haven't really done any pull tests with a scale to see.
I wonder what Jeff has to say about the different retention

The answer to me is pretty simple, a standard pouch style leather sheath should hold a knife as securely as a standard kydex sheath for the most part. Sometimes customers preferences and particular requests vary, but regardless of the material used, the sheath should hold the knife securely as a general rule. At the same time it shouldn't be overly hard to draw either.

On my kydex sheaths(my favorite) , I add some rubberized tape inside one or both sides. I have lost a blade and a firearm in combat...not a good feeling. That's why I ALWAYS carry backups/redundent equipment on certain detail or missions. 3 blades minimum.

I pretty much asked Jeff if he could do an x-loop on the kydex and then he created that work of art. Totally outdid what I envisioned.
