Going off to a Michigan gathering with some W&SS folks at bladeforums this weekend. The gathering will be just outside of Ann Arbor in the Waterloo State Recreation Area. SOD is coming along but the mutts will stay home. Hopefully I'll have some more pics to post of SOD choppery action on Sunday when I return!

Went out to the Waterloo State Recreation Area, about 20 min drive from Ann Arbor Michigan this weekend. A fellow BF member rented one of the rustic bunkhouses and my wife and I went in on the cabin deal with him. It was a lot of fun, we were hoping to do some snow shoeing, but alas it was too warm and the snow was melting like crazy.

My wife and I did this little circuit trail. It was 5 miles, but we did a bunch of little de-tours here and there. I think we probably did about 7 miles that day.

Here is some coyote scat, and possibly the meal that resulted in such...

Now here is some good natural tinder!

What a shame. A tree fell in front of the path. This looks like a job for the SOD!

Even though I convexed my SOD to a pretty steep edge, the edge showed no signs of rolling or any damage. I was swinging pretty hard during those strikes also.
All that chopping takes a bit out of you, and it is good to have some grub.

Back at the camp, not chill'n, we were warm'n.

The re-hydrated "Mountain House" brand dehydrated foods from REI were pretty darn good. All you do is boil water and then add two cups into the package. Re-seal the package up, weight 10 minutes and eat. The two of us had the Mexican chickan and rice (which tasted pretty much like chilli with rice) and the beef stroganoff. He were totally stuffed after the two packages. The beef stroganoff was amazing! The Sierra Nevada was a perfect compliment to it.
