Northern1

Thanks for the review. So you actually like the DF better then the NMFBM! Wow, that is a testimony. Say, are you saying that you cut wood...against the grain to section up trees and limbs with the DF? I can see batoning to split wood, but I have never considered driving it against the grain to section lumber, or am I misunderstanding what you said?

Would you say the DF is superior to say... a 14" bolo Tramontina? I am really impressed with this cheap tool for hacking small limbs. It is not a great chopper though big hardwood, but it will kill my small hatchet when it comes to 1.5" pine limbs and such.

the SOD is great but i love my CW more.

the shape of both of the weilers, old and new have probably always been my favorite looking knives of all time.

i would also much rather have diff. heat treated 52100 than S7 and i like micarta better than res-c.

also,i think that for a combat/tactical blade that its really important to have the tang protrude out the bottom of the knife handle like full tang slab handle knives have to use for striking/breaking material objects whether they be steel, concrete or whatever.

i wouldnt mind seeing some scrapyard knives in the future with micarta or g10 slabs.

i know its all about price to performance but i think the performance of a full tang slab handled scrapper would far out weigh the added price.

and while that res-c is tough for a rubber like material it does wear down and is susceptible to tears/cuts.

mixing SR77 with micara or g10 would make one of the all around toughest blades ever.

though i disagree with northern1 on about every issue here, he mentions a solemn point in reference to the potential tearing of the Res-C when compared to G10 slabs or micarta handles... then again , this adds weight and when going for a combat knife, which is what SY goes for if im not mistaken, weight is HUGE. an extra bit of weight can mean the difference in leaving the knife at the hooch or taken it with ya on your LBV.

Ahh the 14" Tramontina.... Size does matter! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Seriously, I don't think you would be interested as it is very cheap....Less then $6. I know you would rather spend big bucks....and heck so would I, but I do love the tool anyway.

Tramontina makes a bunch of differnt types of Machetes for different types of work. They are a Brazilian companay but make a great cheap working tool. I like the Bolo style because it has more forward weight with a slight recurve. It is light in the hand and very fast but cuts quite deep. It is just a simple carbon steel that sharpens easily and takes a good edge. The handles are comfortable and well put together...solid! They are unlike the cheap junk you find locally...a really good tool in my opinion.

It is worth many times is price for the work it accomplishes.
