The following is a direct excerpt from the WI. statutes for concealed carry.

BEGIN QUOTE:

Wisconsin - 941.23 Carrying concealed weapon.
Any person except a peace officer who goes armed with a
concealed and dangerous weapon is guilty of a Class A
misdemeanor.

Wisconsin Case Law:

To "go armed" does not require going anywhere. The elements
for a violation of s. 941.23 are: 1) a dangerous weapon is on the
defendant's person or within reach; 2) the defendant is aware of
the weapon's presence; and 3) the weapon is hidden.
State v. Keith, 175 Wis. 2d 75, 498 N.W.2d 865 (Ct. App. 1993).

Judges are not peace officers authorized to carry concealed weapons.
69 Atty. Gen. 66.

END QUOTE:

So here in Wisconsin I can legally carry my Dog Father LE on my hip as long as it is in a sheath which lets the public see that it is a visible knife.
Which is quite evident!

NOBODY but LEO's can carry concealed here. But knives of any length are fine as long as they are displayed.

Rainwalker lets me display mine in fine style wherever I go in Wisconsin and it's legal.
Got to love that law.

I wear two on my belt and carry 2 in my pockets and wear a necker whenever I leave the house.

Peace.

Some people just never learn.

Larry44, welcome to Texas in advance...prepare yourself for friendly people, lower taxes and gun laws that blow MAs out of the water. Houston is hot, humid and has a big city vibe because it is a big city. Harris County is the roughest in the state.

People here are respectful and usually pretty conservative. I think we have some of the better "values" in the USA. That isn't saying much now though perhaps. Like Sodom and Gomorrah, hopefully if there are just ten righteous people the Lord will spare us...that wasn't the case there. Oh, be sure to not look back .

Andy, knows a bit about the Texas laws. Indiana is more knife friendly.

For those who don't know, I went to college in Abilene, TX.

Yup, Indiana is a lot better. Only knives not allowed are ninja stars & switchblades. Anything else is ok to carry, open or concealed. You can also get your handgun carry permit at 18, we have a lifetime permit too. Only qualificaitions are a clean record, no firearms tests or anything. Also you can carry your handgun open or concealed. So, I think Indiana is more gun friendly too.

[quote]I've been checking out TX knife laws and it seems that any blade longer than 5 1/2" isn't legal. That would make my SOD LE (my first Bussekin) unwelcome. Or my bowies.

Is this accurate? What's the EDC limit?

Found this:

Texas - Health, Safety & Morals - 46.02. Unlawful carrying
weapons. (a) A person commits an offense if intentionally,
knowingly , or recklessly carries on or about his person a
handgun, illegal knife, or club. [Exceptions: official;
actor was own premises; was traveling; engaged in lawful
hunting, fishing, or other sporting activity; security
guard].
- 46.01. Definitions. (1) "Club"... includes... (D)
Tomahawk...
(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by
being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto,
and poniard;
(D) sword; or
(E) spear.
(7) "Knife" means any bladed hand instrument that is capable
of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or
stabbing a person with the instrument.
- 46.03. Places weapons prohibited.
(a) A person commits an offense if, with a firearm, illegal
knife, club, or prohibited weapon [includes switchblade
knives], he intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly goes:
(1) on the physical premises of a school [or school bus];
(2) on the premises of a polling place...
[(3) a court; (4) a racetrack; (5) secured area of an
airport].
- 46.05. Prohibited Weapons. (a) A person commits and offense
if he intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures,
transports, repairs, or sells... (5) a switchblade
knife... (d) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution
under this section that the actor's conduct: (1) was
incidental to dealing with a switchblade knife,
springblade knife, or short-barrel firearm solely as an
antique or curio...
- 46.06. Unlawful transfer of certain weapons.
(a) A person commits an offense if he... (2)... sells...
gives... offers... to any child younger than 18 years any
firearm, or illegal knife [except with written parental
consent].

Texas Case Law:
- "A teacher could not carry weapons in his school room..."
(1889)
- Broken switchblade knife was still a "switchblade knife"
within this section... (1986)
- "Defendant's contention that he took knife to school to
fight demons that plagued him did not defeat requisite
state of mind for conviction..." (1993)
