. . . the need for the extra lateral strength is silly imho.
Not in a SHTF knife, it's not. At least it's not IMO. You never know what your knife may be called upon to perform in a SHTF situation. And when life or death is concerned, failure is not an option. That's why my Camp Tramp has PERMANENTLY earned the most coveted spot in my entire knife collection . . . my BOB! that is my point, I agree with you but the camp tramp is not S7 it is 52-100 and the point behind my statement was that 52-100, 5160, S7, A8 or A9(Infi I forget) and 3V are all top notch steels and the fact that S7 has a higher lateral strength than 52-100 really doesn't mean much because 52-100 is strong enough for what we would put it thru. One more thing, this is not in anyway a knock on Dan's knives, I love the blades and the price to performance is unmatched, this is just a reference to the constant talk about lateral strength and the need for it.

I think every serious knife user and collector should own a few knives in INFI. It is the ultimate combat knife steel. There are those who will settle for nothing less, but I am not one of them. But then I am not Rambo. Honestly, 1095, 5160, SR77, 52-100 and a few others if properly heat treated and ground serve me well. Being a big chopper lover, I just had to have the FBM and FFBM. I have a couple of ASH-1s, too. And the Sarsquatch is a great medium size chopper. Those SFNOs look good, too, but I don't really need one. The DFLE and SOD LE will do anything I could want a big knife to do, and at a reasonable price. After seeing the final DF test pics, I'm not worried at all that I might break either one of them.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I agree that every serious knife user and collector should own INFI. But one INFI knife is plenty for me. When it comes to Busse family knives, I'll stick with SR77/Res-C for choppers and camp knives and SR101/Micarta (or G10) for utility fixed blades. That way I can stretch my Bussekin dollars and still get "superior performance to price ratio" knives. I will say this, it really sucks now that I have crossed that line, I got my first Busse last year, the ASH1 and was thrilled with it and glad I finally had a piece of INFI. The one Busse blade I always wanted was the Mistress so when Jerry released the NMFBM and I got the wife's consent to buy that I jumped. Next came the NMSFNO and I figured I would round out my collection with it, that way almost all sizes were covered, then came the BATAC. Then I decided to try out Fehrman's knives, love them too but they are also high dollar blades. I guess what I am saying is my wallet is hurting bad now, I really need to get off this expensive knife kick and back down to reality before I find myself homeless.... (at least with all the knives I have I should be able to build myslelf one hell of a house in the woods

I would be in a lot better shape if SwampRat would get on the ball. The Scrapyard knives fill a nitch, the SwampRat line fills a nitch and since they are dead right now I am using the Busse line to satisfy that. I am really hoping their next release is something I can pass on

I miss the Swamp offerings, too. All they have had for some time the HCLE, and I have one of those. I don't know what is going on, but I hope the mid-priced rats continue. I still haven't heard any more about the proposed Rodent line.
