REM762, Many in the yard don't consider Scrap Yard knives to be collector pieces; whether CG or LE, they're users. I'm more the other way in that I keep all mine as (dust) collectors.
It's funny how one's perspective changes; A few years ago, I used to consider anything over $50 to be high end. After I started collecting Busse Combat knives, anything under $350 became "normal" and knives costing $50 or less are downright disposable. Jim you are right. I wont carry an edc blade that costs over $100.00. If it gets broken so what. If it gets lost who cares. I'll just by something else. I've stated before I'm a trucker, and I cut every thing from cardboard to wire to steel banding. I just wish I started buying Scrap Yards from the start.....I would have a bunch of the best knives in the world, and alot more money in my pocket.

Maybe a good balance of both worlds here is in order. In other words- queen a few and use a few. There is a lot of really good steel out there to pick from so maybe get some of those and pound on em and keep " select" Bussekin steel and use some. That way you kind of get the best of all worlds. At my age I am not in the " collecting" stage so much anymore- but can surely see the younger guys points of view. Plus- I am starting to buy select steel to leave for my children and grandchildren. The most important thing is to have fun doing it and enjoy !! That is also what is great about this board as we share in our addiction or " hobby" . Thanks

ordawg...I guess that is what I'm trying to say...Keep some in mint condition to pass on down to the kids, and go out and beat the snot out of the rest. Those will still be in one piece, so you can pass them down also. My daughter is getting all of my stuff. My guns, my knives, and all my Marine Corps related stuff. I look foward to passing this stuff down to her. She knows how important these things are to me, and she is proud to be getting them.

REM - very good posts sir. I tend to agree. if i had to pick ONE company to buy from forever, I would pick Scrap Yard, HANDS DOWN. SR-77 is the queen of my heart in terms of combat grade knife steel. INFI is the whore i sometimes cheat on SR77 with

I don't think anybody mentioned it, but please correct me if I am wrong...doesn't the SOD LE have a sort of collector value? I mean different grind, no coating, and serial numbered. I was under the impression that they were more of a collector piece? Sure it is an extreme use blade, but I get the vibe that it is more of a show piece than a user. My take is that the CG is the user, and the LE is the safequeen. Generally speaking, the relative rarity of the blade in circulation is what makes it a collectors item. The serial number just ranks the desirability some. Obviously there's only one #1 but I doubt you would find that #33 is more valuable than #42 knife condition being equal. We don't know how many SOD LEs were made so it's hard to judge their collectable status right now other than among those who ordered them and know they are darn good Scrapyard knives. Because they were "build to order" it may be that there will be more SODLEs in the market than Ganza releases where the numbers might be relatively small. The fact is we don't know, one way or another. However, I would guess that some of the older SYKCO blades (S6, SS4, DFs) will remain somewhat rarer just because older knives take on a life of their own after a few years and many disappear from circulation.

I have been trying to find a new black S6 for years ordawg1. And I was at one point willing to give upwards of $250 for it!!!!! thats how bad I wanted one. But perhaps because I am picky and had to have it unused and new, it was nearly impossible to find. DAN PLEASE RUN THE S6 AGAIN!!!
