Beutifful blade, I already have my MPLE though. If I didn't, I would be all over that.

Perfect! I know everyone had an entirely different picture in their mind for the next offering but for a daily user this is ideal. The fact we are getting something so soon is awesome news to me! Plus, the price is right. I needed something this size. My SOG seal pup is about the same size but doesn't fit the bill for thickness. 3/16 is what I was looking for and 154CM is a heckuvalot better than AUS6. I was checking out the Koster Nessmuks and although I like the looks I'll take Scrap Yard anyday!
Thanks Dan, Patti, Renee and the rest of the Yard!
Also, being stainless and holding a better edge works well for me. When I'm in the field the less maintenance the better, that's why I carry multiple blades. Each for their own task.

Ive never held or used a knife of that design. What does that design lend itself to be used for? I cant think of anything offhand... maybe skinning an animal or something (which Ive never done). I am sure it will be a quality knife, but I dont see any use for "me". Maybe you guys will enlighten me to some practical uses for that thing. Im on the fence on this one.
Now a Giant SYKCO BM Style Chopper I could use!

When camping or out in the "bush" I've tried the larger blades for basic tasks and for me it is a bit cumbersome. Smaller blades are less tiring and allow for the job to be finished quicker making the experience that much better. Also, blades with serrations are okay when cutting through fibrous or tough material but for basic skinning/cooking tasks a clean edge like the one on the Muk is ideal.
Who here hasn't been on kitchen duty and when someone asks "Who has a knife?" hesitates because either the one you have is too big and mean or more of a looker and not a user. Thanks to MC and some of the other guys I got hooked up with the Mora's and I was well pleased with my purchase. Still, the desire for a really solid camp knife was begging for a Muk and I would have gone Koster but the Yard has done me one better.

The curve is designed for what you just said; skinning large animals, where you'd make a sweeping gesture to seperate the skin from the meat.
There are other uses for a blade like that, but the main usages would be as said before, survival, and to prepare the meat of any animal you're slaughtering.
The more I look at it, the more I'm thinking of ordering it now. Hmm, 1 for me, 1 for my dad, 1 for my cousin.... Yeeesh! This is gonna cost me a fortune by the time I gt sheaths made for them as well!

It is a general purpose knife. The curved belly does lend it to skinning, but it is also useful for food preparaton like chopping and slicing. This model is thick enough for splitting wood for kindling and other bushcraft chores. The blade style was made popular by outdoorsman George Washington Sears, who went by the pen name Nessmuk. He was a popular outdoor sports writer in the 1880s and advocated a minimalist camping style.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I know thinner is better in the world of Nessmuk's along with carbon rather than stainless but I'm an outside of the box kind of person. If GW saw the performance of these blades, which do you think he would have ventured into the wilderness with? The traditional or the modernized? HD, what do you think the weight difference will be due to it being 3/16" rather than 1/8"?

Has anyone here done skinning with a 3/16" blade? How much difference will that make vs a blade of 1/8"?

i was thinkin i'd rather see it in 1/8" too, Art. it's not very authentic, which shouldn't be all that important, but i'd have preferred a thinner stock with the edge running to the grip.
