The good thing is that it can be reduced where as for those who prefer the thickness would have been s.o.l. I think it'll be workable, as messy as the work is the mudder grips and "choil-less finger-saving edge" might save my trigger finger from potential dismemberment! lol.

I think HD has been successful with his attempts, I know I wouldn't try to do it myself without the right equipment. I would probably send it to someone I trust wouldn't kill the treatment on the blade.

Has anyone here done skinning with a 3/16" blade? How much difference will that make vs a blade of 1/8"? Are you kidding? There are lots of good skinning knives with blades 3/16" and thicker. The Bucks are that thick. Bark River has some skinning knives, like the Gameskeeper that are .21" thick. Many of the old Marbles knives and Solingen hunting knives are thick. As tall (wide) as the Scrap Muk is, with a full flat grind, it should do very well, with a good edge. Of course, a thinner blade is easier to sharpen, but may lack the strength for some chores. My Grohmann is 5/32" thick. I deliberately ordered it with the optional flat grind so I could get a finer edge. I think the Scrap Muk will do fine for skinning and a whole lot more. Yes I have skinned with knives that thick. Dan skinned a deer with a Scrapper 6.

I would probably send it to someone I trust wouldn't kill the treatment on the blade. Here is my HCLE, which I guarantee will skin. My MPLE and BDLE are just as sharp. You just have to take the edge down a bit. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/Comp025.jpg)

Well.... hmmmm. I am glad Dan is making this knife, but I just don't know that the heavily upswept curve is what I personally want. This knife is a good multi-purpose design and 154CM (Especically Busse 154CM) "IS a good steel choice for this knife.... even if I might still prefer SR-101. But, IMO, the upswept belly is more suited for skinning and some kitchen use - even if still versatile in the field. Again, I still feel the design is quite versatile, but I don't skin many animals much anymore and without the need to skin animals, I lean towards a much shallower belly as I like a shallower belly for my chore and task uses. Yes, I have many knives already with a shallower belly. And yes, the original Nessmuks have a curved belly very similar to this Scrap Muk. So, this is a fairly good representation combining Mudder grips into a Nessmuk design.
I don't think it would be fair for me to post my original Scrap-Muk concept, but I missed out again. I am very happy with how the MPLE came out though.
I passed on the SOD as I already have a Camp Tramp and while there may be some subtle changes and possibly even some subtle pros and cons in SOD vs. Camp Tramp, I felt covered with my Camp Tramp. - I (selfishly) was really hoping for something closer to the Scrapweiler concept.
Similarly, with this Scrap Muk I was hoping for a shallower belly like my Scrap Muk concept. On my concept, I had the blades edge up VERY close to the grip and even under part of the leading edge of Mudder grip. But, I would be fine with the ricasso as this Scrap Muk has which allows for choking up.... I just would have prefered a shallower belly.
Maybe, I will get lucky with the Mega-Muk concept or Scrap Ruck or some sort of Scrap-kukri or something. I would probably prefer the Mega-Muk in differentially heat-treated SR-101, but the Scrap Ruck and a Kukri "BEG" for SR-77.

I figured you'd be all over this offering since you did a concept version, KG. Admittedly, yours was not exactly like this one, but a Nessie none the less. I immediately thought of yours when I saw this. I do think your version might have inspired Dan to make his, but only Dan can tell us for sure. People on other forums are mixed in their reactions to the Scrap Muk as much as here. I know it's a bit different, but I really like it a lot. I guess this design is one of those that provokes such controversy. Like on another forum a maker came out with a new handle material. Most seemed to like it. I hate it.

I'm thinking about having Rainwalker make up some kind of cool sheath that will hold the new Nessmuk, a BDLE, and a MudPuppy. It'll be my "Triple Threat Set" that I grab when I'm going hunting or fishing. Should take care of any field dressing and skinning duties.
For those of you who have never owned or used a Nessmuk before, they also make excellent kitchen and Camp Cook duty knives. They are super duper veggie choppers!
