I'm thinking about having Rainwalker make up some kind of cool sheath that will hold the new Nessmuk, a BDLE, and a MudPuppy. It'll be my "Triple Threat Set" that I grab when I'm going hunting or fishing. Should take care of any field dressing and skinning duties.

For those of you who have never owned or used a Nessmuk before, they also make excellent kitchen and Camp Cook duty knives. They are super duper veggie choppers!

Sounds interesting Tolly, that would cover a nice range of chores on a successful hunting trip. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

By the way Jeff, I'm actually giving this some very serious thought, so in your free time(yeah right huh?) be thinking about it.

It could strap to your forearm. Great for eating those strange foods at the Mall Food Court, too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

i asked him for an arm guard that would sheath a knife while i was shooting my bow.

Hey Vic, I'm blaming you for the complete destruction of one of my favorite well worn 15 micron silicon carbide belts today. I decided to give the "edge into the belt" grinding method a try on a DMDC that needed a little work and everything was going good on the 20 micron belt, then I switched her over to my favortie 15 and convinced myself I was an "edge in" pro after 4 minutes of grinding and "WHAP!!", bye bye belt! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

Actually it's ordawg1's fault, he called me while I was grinding and the ringer made me flinch.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. At least that's my story.

I actuallt got the hang of it after that little incident pretty quick and I think I like the edge leading method.

Very nice!
I have never owned a Nessmuk style blade, but having read about them a little now it does make perfect sense. Especially in stainless with mudder handles. Weather here during hunting season is usually anything but dry.

I had thought my YKCG was going to be my woods knife next season, but perhaps not.

*Sigh* more funds drained away from my other evil schemes...

Vic and Bruce, thanks, but I don't know that I can take or really deserve so much credit for the current Scrap Yard offering.

My concept was, in all fairness, based on Jerry's original Buss-Muk concept. "But", I just took the Buss-Muk concept blade, flattened/shallowed the curves (more to my liking) and photo-chopped a Mudder handle on it. To me the Mudder handle is an "Obvious" choice for a Nessmuk.... Probably obvious to Dan and Jerry as well.

Further, Dan's Scrap-Muk design is much more true to the original Nessmuk design than my concept.

Since the Scrap Yard Scrap-Muk is more like the original Nessmuk and more like Jerry's Buss-Muk concept than my concept, I don't see that I deserve so much (if any) credit for this one.

I think there will be many people who appreciate the Scrap-Muk being more true to the original design (probably count Pitman in on this list ????). And while the design might be controversial to some, I am very confident the design "IS" very versatile.

I think for many people, the design is aesthetically unusual and it is just one of those knives that has to be used a bit to be appreciated.

As Tolly said, the Nessmuk design is a great kitchen or camp cooking knife, plus a good skinner, plus a pretty decent Bushcraft knife. So, it has a LOT of function to offer.

With less belly like my concept, I still think it would be a great kitchen/camp cooking knife. But, it would not be as good a skinner - compromise - as I think my design would be a better bushcraft design (IMO).

For me, the curvy belly just offers features and benifits that I don't use or need much. And IMO, the curvy belly takes away in "some" function on the types of tasks I do most.

I am actually still torn and not sure. I may very well end up getting one (????). But, I just have a pretty good feel for what I want in a knife for a user and how I use my knives. For this type of knife and most knives for that matter, I just like and prefer less belly. I am confident I would prefer my concept. But, I am just one person and Dan and Jerry have to make decisions for their company to appease the most they can and hopefully sell the most knive as they can. Maybe their design will sell very well.

Side note: I like the black mudders better. I wish my MPLE had black mudders.

.

JYD #39 I prefer "SATIN" blades!!!

Wow- I caused all that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />? I think it was Vic's fault <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I hope they will come really sharp! I'm still working on getting my 154 CM knives sharp. It's some hard stuff. It would be nice if the JYDs who ordered could get their JYD #'s... (hint hint) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Wow, I am away from the board for a day and a half and this pops up.
I like the looks of the blade for a field knife and I like the grips for the extra gripping. I will have to read up a bit more on this knife design and make my mind up==as to how many I want!

As far as the LE #'s, we go in the order that the order came in, if you get in fast enough and the number you are assigned is before your JYD # then you could request to get that number, but you would have to send me an email the day that you place your order so that I can see if it works out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
