So the other day I was hanging out with a buddy of mine and showed him my SOD and Skinny Ash. As I was telling him about their legendary toughness, he suddenly says "let's test it out!" and before I could stop him he banged the knives together, spine against spine, 3 times fairly hard, with the Ash impacting on the SOD.
There are now three good sized chips out of the crinkle coat on the SOD. So besides rapping the SOD 3 time fairly hard on his head, should I be worried about rust or anything else on the SOD where the coating got chipped off?

Rust shoudn't be a problem but you may want to get a Marine Tuff-Cloth and wipe down the exposed metal on the spine and the edge periodically. Also, this may be the excuse that you needed to apply a mirror spine to your knife.

No, I wouldn't worry. Put a little oil on the blade. SR77 isn't real bad for rusting with a little care. As for the head rapping, which is in order, I'd use the butt of the ASH1.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

On a few spots on a couple of knives I managed to ding the finish I used some truck bed liner material. I picked up a quart on sale at a local farm store. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
H/D - I like your suggestion for the head-rap! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I was too dumbfounded to speak when he did it, but I am taking you Ash1 suggestion under serious consideration <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I wouldn't worry about it personally. SR77 is not a stainless steel, but like all carbon steels, it won't rust if you keep it clean and dry. As long as you don't live around salt water, the only thing you need to do is wipe it clean if it gets goo and crud on it.
edit: man! I didn't realize I agonized over my posts /that/ long!

you couldnt hurt either one of those knives if you tried, seriously and either could rust, especially in one tiny spot.you guys would practically need power tools to break them.

I'm not sure what I'd do with a buddy like that, but my first thoughts would probably include "Who knows he's here", and "How long would it take for someone to report him missing". I'm not saying I'd act on those impulses, but they'd be there.

I would have popped him up the side of the head so fast, well opened handed to the back of the head. My father called this kind of training, now get ready, HANDS ON TRAINING!

Yeah, he had a couple wobbly-pops but still, who does that?
Is there any thoughts on asking SY if I can pay to have it touched up? Or am I just going to have to live with an idiot marred knife?
