Precisely. Which is why buying LEs has always been a bit of a head scratcher for me (except when other compelling factors exist such as the difference in blade grinds between the DFCG and the DFLE.)

PS: For those who would use their knives and argue that LEs create less blade drag than CGs, I'd suggest they buy CGs anyway. Then take them out and beat the coat off of them. They'll end up with the same net result . . . a blade that looks well used. But buying the CG and beating the coat off of it is a lot cheaper than buying the LE. It's also a helluva lot of fun!

If you think SR77 rusts fast, just wait till the Swamp's M9 hits the streets. 52100 has roughly half the Chromium content of S7 by volume.

... spray with mineral oil if your using the blade to prep food...

I went to my not-so-friendly local Wally World tonight seeking out some mineral oil, and when the girl showed it to me, I was surprised to see that it's a LAXATIVE! Did I get the right stuff, or are you guys messing with me?!?

you are right on man... some of these people dont understand the lack of logic in getting an UNCOATED blade in sr101.... for a user that will be in the elements, its a bad decision IMO. but some people will do as they may. to each his own. i will NEVER buy uncoated blades from any of the 3. i just dont like them personally, but in sr101.... hell no!

It can be used as a laxative; it has many uses. Mineral oil is also used as... well, oil, for some types of light machines. It's also used as coolant in electrical transformers. If you wipe it on metals before storage, it prevents rust from forming. You can clean with it too. Really it's great stuff. No, nobody is pulling your leg.

edit;
Just FYI, you're probably paying way too much for it if you buy it in small "for medicinal use" batches. A gallon jug of industrial grade mineral oil is like 15$ and should last you basically forever as a home user. I'm not aware of it having a shelf life.

Some of us are not worried about a little patina on a knife.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Sure there is... Buy whatever the hell you want and justify it later by any and all means necessary.

Yep. And I think the larger the knife, the more compelling that argument becomes. But I'm still real happy with my DFCG. And I still have no regrets for not having bought a DFLE.

I think we're back to different strokes for different folks. Correct me if I'm wrong, Tom.

Bruce - you're right about the "different strokes for different folks".

This thread continues to amaze me!!! I have had SwampRat SR-101 blades for 6 1/2 years, and have NEVER had a rust problem!!! Same can be said for some D/C or bead-blasted from other companies - NEVER a rusting problem! I don't live anywhere near an ocean or other saltwater environment, but I just don't buy into the argument of rust and the aforementioned blades!
