ANYTHING is possible, though not necessarily PROBABLE! I think this kind of thread serves more to scare folks rather than just inform them, regardless of intentions. I will stand by my Bussekin blades, no matter which company or blade finish!

I agree Tom...looked after users are not a problem...stored knives prepared properly for storage are not a problem...coated blades cleaned properly can be used for food preperation without any problems...they all work if you do the right things. Awareness of what happens during use is part of the learning curve and enjoyment of using a knife...tool steel was used for hundreds of years before stainless was created.

Thank you Pete! I am just concerned that some newer and younger or less experienced Dogs may be scared away from some great blades, which would be a real shame. Thanks for again pointing out that proper care of your knives will greatly increase their longevity and their user's pleasure!

I agree with the education bit Bruce...but it is amazing how some "posts" undermine reputations...a guy on B/F posted that his Infi had distorted at the edge when hitting a knot in wood...many said the profile was too thin...it took a while to establish it was too thin...but in the meantime as Jerry said in the post...some things could be "irresponsible"...meaning it could damage the reputation of his knives...postulating that some "finishes" are likely to create a rust problem is IMO a sort of "risky" thing for Dan...a D/C finish is a good one...so is a coated finish and so is Satin...they all have pro's and Con's but none remove the need to care for a Tool Steel knife. On that point I definately agree with you...and it is fairly easy to do as well!

i didn't click the link and i'm not disputing oxidization, but as an aside wikipedia is a pretty weak source. it's just like asking a stranger whose expertise is a mystery.

Some of us are not worried about a little patina on a knife.

I like patina, patina is good for the users.

i wasn't shootin down your post, bruce. doesn't take a psychic to know what it is you linked to. i think klink knows what rust is. i think you know what rust is. i think you know we all know what it is.

klink didn't say it wouldn't happen. he also took exception for those who live in damp climate. you linked him anyway. now i've clicked and what a surprise...iron oxide. i was just sharing a little on choosing sources for arguments. what do i know about arguments, though? just a guy with a philosophy degree.

these are blades that we buy for their ability to sustain extreme abuse. we buy them because they're capable of performing in scenarios we will never put them in. it's extremely attractive, despite being completely mindless and unrealistic. rust...oh no...we draw the line there.

NO! not a stain on my precious little trophy! no, please, mercy! don't force me to spend ten seconds rubbing my blade down, which i already do anyway since i love fondling it! i'll remove my own fingerprints, but not rust!!!
