I think the weight forward and length would really favor the DF. I like the piercing tip look on the M9, but it would remove some weight. I wondered if the edge geomotry might make it bite deeper then the DF. There also has to be speed factor that might give some advantage to a lighter more balanced blade.

My guess is the M9 would be the better knife, where the Dogfather would be the better chopper/entry tool/ teeter totter...

I am wondering how well the M9 will stack up as a chopper against the DF? Any thoughts based on the blade design and such? I am talking a stock DF now...not something Vic made into Excaliber...

Is the M9 blade similar to the Battle Rat? Was the BR a zero edge? Anyone compare how well the BR chopped next to a DF?

Fun stuff guys!

I've toyed with the idea of getting a Battle Rat a few times, I've had on in the shop for pants once and liked the way it felt, I figure the M9 will be similar. The DF is heavier I'm sure, the M9 will most likely compare fairly well to the DFLE in performance. I look forward to seeing how it does.

Here is some good reading to get you excited about it: An Axe To Grind.

Great info, Brian, Thanks for the link.

So your saying there is a noticeable difference between the Mastiff and the DFLE? If I am correct, there is less then a half inch blade length difference, and the Mastiff is supposed to be blade heavy compared to the Rat Daddy....so the Dog Father may be better then the Rat Daddy as well...

Are you talking in chopping only, or in other areas that make you opt for the DF over the Mastiff?

What do you attibute the performance advantage to, and do you think you would favor the DFCG over the Mastiff?

Man..do I have lots of questions!
