Alive, The Hunted, Castaway, Into the Wild, Lord of the Flies, Snow Walker, all good films. I'll have to check out The Edge.

Hunted is ok (weak story line, love the Kali stuff though)
Castaway is ok (dialogue is a little weak, corny in some spots)
Edge isn't too bad. I like A. Hopkins in it.
Jeremiah Johnson was good.
Never Cry Wolf also was quite good.

Haven't seen Into the Wild, Lord of the Flies or Snow Walker yet, although
I'm going to get Snow Walker this week.

You have to excuse the critic like approach guys. Spent 18 years in the
Broadcast industry. Look at things with a bit of a different viewpoint at times.

Lord of the Flies - excellent book! Anyone about to embark on a deployment and spend months living in a shoebox with 30 people needs to read that.

First rambo is great. Who didn't want a knife with a compass in the handle?

Jeremiah Johnson is a classic. Love it.

I can't believe no one said it yet - Red Dawn.

TRIGGER EFFECT

Ok, this isn't a survival movie, but it does more accurately depict what things will be like for most people (not anyone reading this) if the power grid goes down for any length of time.

Forgot about Red Dawn.
It's been so long since I saw that one, that I'll have to find it again
and watch it. Wasn't that about a Russian attack on California or something?

Not really a survival movie, but what about,"Enemy at the Gates"? Forget the love story in it, the actual cat and mouse sniper bits in the flick are among some of my favorite!

You guys have named some good one's...

One more to add to the list is: Survival Quest

Lost in the Barrens is another one.

I know I've got a few more at home that fall into this category, can't think of the titles right now though...

You know, it's a funny thing.
Lost in the Barrens, Never Cry Wolf, and Snow Walker are all movies based on
books written by Farley Mowat. He's written a lot of books that are sort of
Man against Wild, Man in Wilderness, Human Survival types of books.
Each of the three mentioned involve indigenous peoples teaching others to survive
by using what's available to them in their environment.
I remember reading them when I was young (except for Snow Walker). Also, I
remember reading a book called Grey Seas Under about a sea going rescue tug in
the North Atlantic. If anyone is interested in maritime reading, that's a great
book to read.
