Since this thread has moved to actors, Harrison Ford is a volunteer helicopter pilot for rescue missions in Wyoming. I like the fact that Gibson's beat up face got him the part in Mad Max, all because of a bar fight.

Since we're on actors.I really like Tom Cruises movies(especially The Last Samurai)However I really don't care for Tom Cruise.I think just about every role he has played could be played by someone else and because the movie itself is so well done it would still be great!

+1 on The Last Samurai. I agree with you on Tom. Don't like him but I really enjoyed that film. One of the few I can watch more than once.

Recon, I wasn't talking acting, Hanks is a very good actor and that was a difficult role. I was thinking more like reality, Hanks is getting old and he is the self proclaimed fatass. He has said that several times and I will note the Letterman show specifically.

I'd put my money on someone who is in better shape. The military tries to keep you in decent shape don't they?

The fact that he is utra left wing was just an added jab.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Alone in the Wilderness" the true story of Dick Proenneke living alone in a log cabin in Alaska for 30 years, with no power and only a canoe for transportation.

I watched it and really liked it, I have to admit I like the over the top stuff. Scenes were in realty through a hail of bullets from well trained ex military no one would survive - he gets them all. I also spotted they armed the last goon with a karambit, i liked it some what different.

There are a number of movies that have survival lessons in them that are not survival movies.

The 2007 movie "Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon is one. I always fill up at half a tank. Some of my friends think that is strange. I don't want to kill the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it but basically this man lost his son, his wife and the other son was crippled for life all because he had to stop for gas in a bad part of town late at night.

The 2000 movie "Proof of Life" with Russell Crowe. A guy is kidnapped and marched through the jungle to a base camp. By the time he got there he was bare footed. He started the march wearing a nice pair of sneakers. They didn't hold up. A good pair of "Trail Running" shoes would have and no one would have known....they still look like sneakers but are built heavier and have more lateral support.

The 1996 movie I mentioned earlier in this post "Trigger Effect". Again it showed the need to keep a full tank of gas. The need to keep some cash around and not just depend on your debt card.

I know the writers, directors and producers never intended for these kind of lessons to be taken from these movies . But you know what they say; "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching you."
