There are a number of movies that have survival lessons in them that are not survival movies.

The 2007 movie "Death Sentence" with Kevin Bacon is one. I always fill up at half a tank. Some of my friends think that is strange. I don't want to kill the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it but basically this man lost his son, his wife and the other son was crippled for life all because he had to stop for gas in a bad part of town late at night.

The 2000 movie "Proof of Life" with Russell Crowe. A guy is kidnapped and marched through the jungle to a base camp. By the time he got there he was bare footed. He started the march wearing a nice pair of sneakers. They didn't hold up. A good pair of "Trail Running" shoes would have and no one would have known....they still look like sneakers but are built heavier and have more lateral support.

The 1996 movie I mentioned earlier in this post "Trigger Effect". Again it showed the need to keep a full tank of gas. The need to keep some cash around and not just depend on your debt card.

I know the writers, directors and producers never intended for these kind of lessons to be taken from these movies . But you know what they say; "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching you."

jackel, very good call, I am one of those half tank guys as well. Cash is king, it is the only way you can't be followed.

I can't believe no one has mentioned "Alone in the Wilderness" the true story of Dick Proenneke living alone in a log cabin in Alaska for 30 years, with no power and only a canoe for transportation.

Thats the best for me! He is a true outdoorsman/survivalist! What a stud!

That is a great movie too, I was able to watch it through a DVD pass around on another forum. I have been thinking more along the "hollywood" variety.

Death Hunt with Charles Bronson was pretty good. The Mad Maxes were interesting in a total world collapse, holocost theme. Obviously Jeremiaha Johnson was good.

a true story of a fighter jet pilot who gets shot down over vietnam, ends up in a POW camp in the middle of the jungle, takes over the camp, escapes and has to survive in the jungle until his rescue.

not a very well known flick.the star is that guy who played batman in "the dark knight"
