I don't believe I've seen KG gush like this over a knife since I joined the Yard It's his fault I bought a RatManDu and he was right it's the best 5" knife I have When Dan announced the Scrapper 5 I was sure I would pass. Afterall I already have 4 Bussekin 5" knives I'm still waiting on specs and price to make a final decision but it looks like I may be purchasing another 5" knife
I see about 90% of the knife. And from what I "SEE", this S5LE looks AWESOME.
Most of what remains to be "seen" are steel type, price and over-all specs.
I am not worried about over-all specs. I will take from what I can "SEE" from the pictures as being a pretty strong indicator I am VERY enthuesiastic about this design.
I would personally lean towards about 3/16 (.1875") thick. I think 0.25" is thicker than I prefer.
The Bog Dog is 0.14" thick and while I don't think it is too thin, I don't have ANY problem with going a bit thicker to 0.1875" or so. But, still, IMO, 0.25" is too thick for a knife this size to do what I want it to do.
Steel type and price are relevant factors still.
Until I know price and steel type, I will try to hold back a "Bit" on recommendations. BUY IT!
Seriously, my "Guess" is this knife will be 154CM and I consider 154CM a very worthy choice for this size knife and design - even if I personally would likely prefer SR-101.
I don't really know about price. I am hoping for under $100. My finances can't even afford or justify that right now, but ....
If I weren't so tight on funds right now, I could go higher, but less likely to buy spares. I don't typically buy "spares" for investment. I buy "spares" because some knives just seem so good I want to have a back-up years from now if I ever loose one or similar. Plus, I can have one nice "Looker" in my display and one beat-up user.
While I like SR-77 enough for mega-duty choppers and I have my "1" DMCG that I intend to keep because it is uniquely cool (and I already stripped!).
I don't really have much desire for too many MEGA-tough SR-77 smaller knives. For me, edge qualities are much more important in smaller knives. SR-77 is decent for edge qualities. But, these days, I know of many better options for my smaller knives - including SR-101 and INFI. Sorry... just my opinion.
