welcome to the yard luke! Nice avatar by the way.. Heh, thanks. It'll be cool for a few more months, until the movie comes out, then I'll have to change it, heh. Who told you we were knowledgeable? I've been lurking for a bit and people here know way more about knives/steel than I do (and have many more knives too). But, yes, this place seems much more congenial than most of the blade forums I've lurked about on. Cheers!
What should such fellows as I do, crawling between earth and heaven?

Welcome to the yard Thanks. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as all of y'all, so go easy. Who told you we were knowledgeable? The forum as a whole is. I know I have learned a lot more here than I have taught. Welcome, luke. We are pretty laid back here. We share information, and on occasion disagree, but always in a respectful way. That's the Yard......

I picked up a MUK as my first scrapyard knife. I think I will need to pick up two of these. Or maybe three.

Welcome to the Yard Luke and Steve.
A cool new knife always brings out a few new members.
Welcome to the addiction as well!
Vic I couldn't agree more! CG in SR77 (or SR101 KG ) and LE in 154cm.

Rainwalker, Are you making sheaths for the scrap muk? Do you recommend leather vs kydex?

Steve Oh yea... I've got a lot going on ATM, but the Muk has been called to duty as well. Either material makes good pants for the Muk. Leather is a little easier on that shiny finish, but if it's a user it don't really matter.

I also noticed the oversized, squared-off choil and Dan's attempt to disguise it and thought immediately of you.
I am pretty particular about stuff - especially when I pay for it and especially when I am passionate about it as with my "Hobby" - knives. - I am's what I am's. .

SR77 is best for the choppers, I hope this one is 154cm or maybe Dan can steal a load of SR101 from the swamp. +1 But, 154CM is very good for a slicer. KG, I don't have as much experience with knives but I'm trying to learn. I feel confident in SR-77 enough to take the edge thin if I so choose. Slicing ability mainly has to do with thickness and edge geometry. It might not hold as good of an edge as sr101, but it's not so "soft" that it'll quickly dull or roll, right? I don't care if it's INFI or cheap kitchen knives, a thicker edge will be stronger and thinner edge will slice better. It just seems to me that a lot of people think sr77 won't make a very good slicer and can only be used in choppers. Maybe I'm a bit bias, but when I think of scrap yard, I think of sr77 (thick or thin). With that being said, I'll take the S5 in sr77 or 154cm. I don't mind the square choil, but I hope it isn't the full size choil straight from the DF/SOD. SR-77 can be made a decent (albiet not long-lasting edged) slicer if and when ground thinner. From the factory it comes very obtuse/thick. SR-77 when ground thinner can be good at slicing, but it tends to not hold it's edge as long as MANY other steels I have used. I can get SR-77 to push cut paper, shave and all that. But, after use, other steels stay sharper longer. I like for my slicers to hold their sharpness longer than I have noticed SR-77's ability to hold a sharp edge. - Just my preference. SR-77 is just more suited for choppers - for my preferences. .
