id have to say my SOD is my most useful bussekin knife...it can chop wood just fine, it can cut my veggies and meats (including bone) and i can even use it in place of a fork.

my most useful non busse knife would be the S2 mora i use it for everything and anything for work. it gets heavily abused....id like to take my HR Res-C out in the field but have no pants for it but seeing the S5 i might have to let go of that HR (too much belly for me).

Edit: Id carry my SOD in the field more as well but its got no pants.

I wasn't thinking of folders when I answered Ratmandu. I carry my Rat Trap every day and use it all the time, so I guess it is my most useful Busse-kin knife.

I like the Rat Trap, and while I never had anything bad happen, I don't like liner locks.

Frame lock or bust baby!!!!!!

I am actually considering selling my last RT just because I don't use it because of the liner locks.

I used the others I had......but saved one.

This has to be my favourite type of post....

+1

Quote
technically my EDC folder is the most useful blade i have but since its not busse kin i doesnt count here.busse kin only.

+1 .... As much as I like fixed blades and 90% of my collection is fixed blades, Folders are just what I carry and use BY FAR the most - probably about 90 - 95%.

Quote
.......so many knives..so many uses. The "MOST" useful is the one you have on you.

+1 which is again, mostly folders.

Further, even when out hiking, on trails and similar, the MOST common knife I carry and therefore most common knife I use is typically a 4" or comparably smaller sized fixed blade (if not a folder). I rarely actually carry anything larger than my RMD. (Maybe my SJTAC on occassion) And more often carry even smaller than my RMD.

Even with different sizes, this is getting harder and harder for me. There really are just so many good choices with different appliacations. So, sorry for multiple answers. Just depends on my mood and/or application:

Small Size: HRLM, Bog Dog, SS4, MPLE (Howling Rat 2nd Gen good as well ) - TOUGH catagory!

Medium Small: RMD, and soon to be S5LE!!! I think the S5LE is likely to bump my highly prized RMD! - When I get around to doing some "SERIOUS" mods to my SAR5, it will be a serious contender in this catagory!

Slightly Sub Medium: SJTAC!... with my modification!!! (Desert Jack ranks one of the highest for "Cool" aesthetics IMO, but honestly not my favorite user)

Medium Size: 1st: CAMP TRAMP! CLOSE 2nd: SARSquatch!

Medium Large: 1st: FSH; 2nd: NMSFNO

Large Size: 1st: Battle Rat; 2nd: DFLE, I don't have a FBM. I have a NMFBM and the NMFBM is just too large for my preferences. I am not a fan of the CBT grooves, but I think I would like the lighter weight of the CGFBM. There is a flat grind FBM that is 0.25" thick that I would like to pick up some day.

In the end, my favorites are very tough to call, but the following are all probably top 6 - just not sure of the order: HRLM, RMD, Bog Dog, SJTAC, Camp Tramp, FSH

I tell you all what... I love my Competition-finished SJTAC. It might be the best all-around knife I own. Although my brand new NMSFNO might end up taking that spot, once I get a chance to use it. But that SJTAC sure carries nicely IWB!

Custom: Burchtree Chop Suey
Top Knife
[Linked Image from i60.photobucket.com]

Jason,

I really like that Burchtree Chop Suey!

I used to have a Becker Brute YEARS ago now - well before I knew about Busse and Swamp Rat - Long before Scrap Yard existed. I really liked the blade shape of the Brute, but hated the handle and coated blade. So, I sold it.

Now, I know how to strip a blade and I could build a custom handle. The Brute's could be picked up for under $100 back then. Now they are pretty darn pricey.

I hope they bring the Brute back at a good price again.

mbombelli,

I don't have a comp finished SJTAC. But, I stripped mine, convexed it and made a few mods.
For me, the thumb ramp was not right for me, so I removed it and made some subtle handle mods at spine and belly to better fit my hand.

You don't hear much about the SJTAC much anymore. But, after some mods, I really LOVE mine. I LOVE the blade shape. And I agree, for it's size, it carries pretty well. and offers MASSIVE versatility... Did I mention I LOVE the blade shape.

I have tinkered with quite a few concept designs based on the SJTAC's blade. Does the SJTAC's blade shape remind you of anything?
