I'm getting ready to experiment w/ a convex grind, but I was wondering how you maintain the edge in the field when it needs a touch up. Someone posted a link in a different thread to www.knivesshipfree.com that had excellent videos on convexing a blade and touch ups in the field. Check it out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Gideon Where did you get the sander just a local home depo im guessing thats a great idea i think i will go pick one up. Thanks for the idea Exactly - at Home Depot. You get smaller ones that work better for a field kit and edge maintenance, but this larger one made for quicker re-profiling.

I'm getting ready to experiment w/ a convex grind, but I was wondering how you maintain the edge in the field when it needs a touch up. Pretty easy - I use an Altoids tin (below the knife) with 2 strips of leather glued to each side (black and green compound) and some sand paper for rolls and chips. Nice, small, compact and easy to use. The sand paper can be clamped in the lid and used that way, but most of the time I just use the leather to strop. ![[Linked Image from overlandrover.net]](http://www.overlandrover.net/Mac01/BOB/IMG_0278_op_800x661.jpg)

im glad that i started this thing cause i have found so many diffrent ways to sharpen a knife other than just using a wet stone although it gets the knife sharp it just takes to long

This is a good thread, as it pulled together some previous discussions that should hopefully end up in the FAQ for the forum, if they are not there already. There are some great links and how-to's listed throughout the sharpening discussion. I'll probably start to acquire some of this after I have a good stockpile of SYKs purchased, because all of this material and equipment will run the cost of a couple of blades! It will definitely be worth it over time.
