This will be my first SY knife, and I've been searching out potential sheaths for it. I've looked at Rainwalker and David Brown, both having some really nice work. Just looking for advice from other Dogs that may own any sheaths by either of them. (ie fit, overall quality, pros, cons etc.) Feel free to pm me if you don't want to list potential cons publicly. Thanks.

I'm thinking of trying my hand at sheath-making, since I'll have so many that need sheaths. I've never worked with kydex, but I've done some plastic molding in the past, and I'm fairly handy with tools, so it shouldn't be TOO hard. I doubt it will look quite as nice as some of the pros around here, but I could make something functional.

There are some sheath making tutorials (including kydex) in my sig link.

They both do great work. I own sheaths from them both. You could always email them both, and go with whoever is least backed up and can ship you a sheath fastest.

If I were you, I'd email Rainwalker and ask him if he could modify the plastic liner for you. I ordered a Spec-Ops survival sheath and had it sent directly to him. When the SOD's began shipping, Rainwalker used the one he ordered as a model to mold the liner the sheath came with. If the stock liner wouldn't work, Rainwalker would have made a custom liner instead for an additional cost. It worked out great...drop him a line

Thanks for your thoughts gents.

I have actually made sheaths before - but they tend to be agricultural, functional type things, I'm more the engineer than the artist.

In the absence of better info I guess I'll get an S6 nylon and see how it goes.

I'll probably get an S6 First Position Kydex too probably, and it if does not go OK - well I can always put my S6 in it.

If either go well then I guess I'll go back and get the necessary extras with a second order.

Getting something custom made up is an expensive proposition down here (Australia) there's a dearth of sheath makers that I can find, that do the sorts of sheaths I like.
And postage adds up, especially if you have to send the knife to the US to have it fitted.

And I'm the impatient type!
Gen X. Instant gratification please.
;-)
And any way once I get my hands on a knife I am loath to give it up.
Completely irrational but then again so is a collection of serious knives for a city dwelling computer geek who gets out bush, at best a couple of times a year!

Have you checked to see if David or Rainwalker have the S6 in their inventory? I hear what you're saying though on shipping costs. Being from Hawaii (and MC can vouch for me), shipping SUCKS! Almost every place offers free shipping "within the United States, except Hawaii and Alaska." My response is, "Since when did Hawaii and Alaska separate from the United States!?"

With as much interest as they have shown in the S5, I'm sure that sheath makers Rainwalker and David Brown will be providing sheaths to fellow sheath-hungry Dogs!

I will get at least one

I will post a pic of the sheath when I get a S5 & make the sheath.

Trying to find more chocolate kydex
