Make mine fat....If you need the knife to do EVERYTHING....you need that .250....unless you carry other blades.
good point arcangel, very good point man! thts why i love love love the DMCG <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> it can do it all. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
Just out of curiosity, have any of you actually had a SR101 blade fail on you that was 3/16...or maybe more to the point, one that failed that you know would have not should it have been made out of 1/4 stock? Not trying to sound cantankerous, but I have a few 3/16 blades and I have done a fair amount of prying with them too, and there is no sign of weakness at all. But then again, all my prying is with my body mass and/or strength, and in the wild. I've never done stuff in a "clinical" setting using uncommon leverage so maybe that is where my experience differs from others (that was not a shot at NOS et. all BTW).
I guess what I am asking is, is the desire for a real thick blade based on philosophical (I'm not knocking it if it is) or a practical perspective?
For me, I want a knife that can keep a good edge and pry...but in that order. So for me, Moras are out, but so are crowbars (and why I love my Swamp Rats and my SS4). I have FULL confidence in Bussekin blades in SR101 at .165 for everything that I could dream up; is such not the case for those who desired a thicker blade (that wasn't meant to be a “challenge,” just honestly wondering)?
