You really dont want one of these...
Forget you ever heard about it.
Forget you ever saw it.
Forget all about it.

One thing to keep in mind, MM. If you don't already own a Busse Combat INFI knife, you're going to have to get one sooner or later. Otherwise you'll never know what it's like to own "the best of the best". The NMSFNO would be a GREAT INFI knife to own and it's reasonably priced by INFI standards. So if it catches your fancy and you don't already own INFI, I say GO FOR IT! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I don't own an INFI knife, but I am still keeping my fingers crossed for a sub-$200 S5 in INFI. My main worry is that I would get my NMSFNO and immediately abuse it like I did my Mini Uncle Mojo, and then be unlikely to get most of my money back out of it on the exchange, since there are a pretty good number of NMSFNO's out there already.

As you said, I am definitely leaning towards the res-C handle for choppers, so I wonder if it's worth the expense just to say I own an INFI chopper, especially given the chance that I might be able to snag an infi knife WITH res-c in the next couple of months.

The INFI S5 might or might not happen. Even if it happens it's not an 8incher! It's more for finer work than chopping. I don't think you will want to sell it once you have a taste of INFI. Think SR77 with VERY GOOD edge retention. Think SR101 that is as tough if not tougher than the SR77! That is how good INFI is!

So the Camp Tramp is analogous to the SOD, except in SR-101? Am I getting that right?

Yes, pretty much. The SOD has a thumb ramp and a more aggessive point, but they are very similar, which is a good thing, since Camp Tramps are getting hard to come by.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Now here's a crazy question... I wonder, has anyone sent a micarta-handled knife to the Busse custom shop and had it fitted with a Res-C handle instead?

The Res-C might be viewed as the "low end" handle, but I've got a couple of larger knives with rubbery handles and I MUCH prefer them to micarta. I'll take an ugly handle that's comfortable any day of the week.
