Good luck dialing that puppy in. How are ammo prices and availability for 17HMR in your area? Last time I checked prices were about .5 cents a round for quality ammo.

.17 HMR ammo is running $15 to $17 per box here, when you can find it. I just picked up three boxes of 17 gr V-Max CCI. That's $0.32 / rd. It has never been .05/rd here. That's about what .17 Mach 2 runs. Speaking of ammo, just about every local dealer is out of .22, 9mm, .380,and .40. Small handguns are hard to find, too. The extraordinary demand for guns and ammo exceeds anything we have ever seen.

Peter, the screws are standard slot type with very shallow and thin slots. I dropped the CZ off at my gunsmith's antique shop today. He said that a number of the CZs have had the wood to swell tightening the bedding screws and pressing on the barrels of the "free floated" HB varmints. He further informed me that the CZ 452 HB Varmint in .22LR is the most popular silhouette rifle in our NRA matches as it meets the weight limits for "Hunter Rifle" class. The CZs are out shooting the Remingtons, Kimbers, and Anschutzes. Of course, the clunky old Marlins and Savages sometimes do too. Some of the CZs are getting .75" groups at 100 meters with the .22 LR Wolf ammo on calm days. I have no doubt he can get the inherently more accurate 17 HMR to do as well. He will adjust the trigger pull to 2 lbs and free float the barrel. I have already cleaned the bore (did it at the range). As an old match shooter myself, I am familiar with lapping barrels and the moly trick. The high power boys do it more than the rimfire shooters, but it has been done. I always start with the simple easy stuff first when sorting out a new rifle. Often, that is all it takes. The last thing I try is rebedding the action, but sometimes it takes that.

Vic, I invested in one of these Brownell screwdriver sets and it has paid for itself many times in reducing the frustration associated with stripped heads and screwdriver scratches on my firearms.

I actually have two B-Square gunsmith screwdriver sets, but none of the bits fit these oddball alien screw heads. I'll Czech out the Brownell's.

The scew slots could be a difference between metric and imperial screws? That's all I can think of....

Slide over to rimfirecentral.com and inquire about the Brooks trigger kit for your CZ452.

Have in my CZ 452 Varmint in .17HMR- BIG DIFFERENCE. Other than that a box stock A1 shooter. My prairie dog rimfire rifle..mine does best w/Hornady 17 gr VMAX.

I think Mr. Brooks may have had some product delivery issues possibly related to health but if he is up and at them, buy his reasonably priced kit.

I just don't like these action screws at all, Peter. Knowing that there must be others like me out there who shoot this popular varmint rifle, I found some socket head action screws available for this rifle on line. For those of us that tinker with our rifles until they are as perfect as we can get them, these screws will be used quite a bit, so why frustrate myself? It has been years since I used to dial in new rifles. I forgot how much fun it can be. I should have the CZ back next Tuesday, and then some more range time. This hot little rimfire is a blast to shoot. A yard full of evil varmints awaits the crack of the mighty 17 HMR!

What size 5-shot groups will yours shoot at 100 yds?

Good call Vic, the socket head screws are a lot better....saves slipping and scratching the wood...and you can torque the screws in the action much easier.

Yeah I missed the 2 in front of my price. I meant .25 cents a round. Looks like its gone up a bit but Cabelas appears to have some in stock.

I have used his trigger kit before and it does make a difference. Go to the faq page and there is good info on what to do to make the CZ more accurate.
