I can't say because if I had one there would be no need to continue the hunt!

Saying that, the SOD at the moment. Then again, if I secure a DF then it might be that. But, the S5 LE could be it too. Oh man, I forgot about the BDLE--that might be it. Wait, I need to try the DM out because it comes with high recomendation. I am screwed :^)

A 3/8 thick SHBM in SR77 with nuclear meltdown treatment done to the choil and pommel, a high saber convex grind to a zero edge, and hand sanded magnum pumpkin g10.

my ultimate knife:

a 20" long x 2" high blade, 26" long overall, shaped like the DogFather, and with Res-c handle. 1/4" thick blade, convexed and razor sharp. Tip shaped like the BRKT Golok. INFI steel. It would easy to sharpen with a ceramic stone and would hold an edge thru the worst abuse. Tan coated with tan Res handle. Sheath would be kydex with shoulder rig, with another sheath for a SOD on the opposite side. There would be a smaller ultra thin knife on the big sheath, for general use, making ultrathin shavings etc.

It better be the one I just spent 8 hours sanding on, the NMSFNO! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

How did it take the sharpening guru so long?...

The sharpening guru is just a fat old man on his back porch. I am sure that the larger more powerful commercial knife grinders could make short work of this. Thing is, I can mess up things fast enough on a little 1/3 HP one. It takes a light touch and a smooth action, repeated many, many times to maintain the proper shape and contour. I have messed up a few knives. You just can't rush these things. I don't have 100% success with these projects. I really have to be mentally up to it. The NMSFNO is the largest Busse I have done a full convex grind on. Since it already had a convex shape to it, all I had to do was follow the existing contours as much as possible and blend it to the final edge. My FFBM and FBM both have been stripped and convexed, but not full convexed from spine to edge. I am one with Champagne taste and a Schlitz budget, or else I would only buy Limited Edition or Custom Shop Busse Combat knives. I just love the look of bare steel and the cutting performance of convex grinds on INFI.

I am a big machete user in the Summer. My true ultimate knife is a NMFBM LE about 1/8" t 3/16" thick. An INFI machete. But then I have not seen the Killa Zilla Kukri yet, and I'm a kook for kukris, too.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

For a large Camp knife have yet to find anything better than my Chopweiler ( in fact I ain't even gonna look cos IMO this knife is perfect for what it was designed for !)

But as an EDC that covers all my hiking needs etc, I'm afraid it's this knife that seems to perform the best so far......

This was when she was brand new.....

A nice custom is nothing to laugh at.
The DM is not everyones thing, and Pit probably wanted a different style of knife.

Actually the DM is probably loved by a select few as it is pretty much a niche knife.

Whatever pit got, I'm sure will serve him better (in some ways) than the DM could.
I do feel sad that we won't see it in his pics anymore, but I'm sure someone else will get some good use out of it, or possibly be introduced to their first SY... wouldn't you want them to start with a knife like the DM!?

I can't wait to see the new knife pit!

I never was into the cult following the DMCG has, but I have a DMDC, 2 DMLEs, and an Urban Mutt. In all its versions, it's got to be one of the toughest knives ever made. You can't say pitman didn't get a lot of good use out of his DM. It is compact and easy carrying. I still think the Ratmandu is the best 5" blade knife ever made. But who knows, that new Scrapper 5 might be as good.
