after that we went on a bike ride, which is something we do almost evry day and from all the rain we got the low water bridge was under water the water actually wasnt the high considering the other day the water was up to where the mud is on the other side of the hill then we ran into a little rattle snake so i cut off the head with the hg55, sorry no pics of that

Thanks for the picks guys, are you guys on your property? If so how many acres? Looks liek you guys have fun. I agree with HD its a nice change to see young men doing outdoors activities.

That rattlesnake doesn't look that little! What kind of rattlers do you have in your area? We have the western/prairie and massasauga here. I have come across the westerns twice while on runs. Very dicey situations both times as I came upon them quickly and encroached on "their space" unwittingly. Fortunately, both times, they didn't strike although I was well within range.
Actually, looking at the photo, that snake doesn't seem to have the pronounced triangular head of the rattlesnakes that I am familiar with.

I think I've made a comment similar to this on one of your other threads before, but was it really necessary to kill the snake? And was it really intelligent to use the HG55 to do so? Better to let the thing slither along on its own, or chuck some rocks to spook it away, than risk getting bitten by a rattler just to say you chopped its head off with a knife. Just my opinion.
When I was a kid, learning to hunt and trap, we didn't just learn to kill stuff randomly - we learned about respect for nature. We also learned that certain critters are better off left alone, rather than provoking them. Again, just something to think about.

I agree with MM, everything has its place, I usually relocate unwanted animals. I try to do my best to leave nature to do it's job, with that said I have also done some "pest" work of various creatures when necessary. I just don't find it that necessary very often.
All that aside have fun and it seems you guys are quite efficient out there on your own <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I had the same thought when I first saw the snake - it looks like a very non-rattle-y tail is showing at the edge of the picture. But I figured it was just a stick or something fooling my eye, so I kept my mouth shut. For what it's worth, I have no problem with eliminating pest animals - I've shot plenty of squirrels and groundhogs, and killed plenty of bee nests. But these were things that were near my home, causing damage to my property, not random animals out in the woods.
