My preferred non-INFI alloy for the S5LE is . . .
single choice

I voted SR101, but honestly I won't buy it in either steel. Shiny means exactly nothing to me, and I won't pay extra for the appearance without something else to entice me - whether that's a full convex grind like on the Busse LE's, or being made from INFI.

154CM does nothing for me in a knife this size, which I would expect to beat pretty hard using it as a camp knife, so if I didn't already have a couple of the CG's on the way, I would want SR101. Since I DO have CG on the way, the only way I'm ending up with the LE is if it's in INFI.

I really like Dan's 154CM. No maintenance and good edge holding. But it is hard to sharpen and I like SR101 even better. Besides, I have Tuf Cloth and a Scotchbrite Buffing wheel. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Of course, I'd like INFI even better.

SR 101 rusts like crazy no naked SR 101 knives for me.

I had a dog skinner once that I bought second hand & the guy touched the blade before he sent it to me & the finger prints rusted in it before it got to me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

There are some good reasons to prefer the 154CM for the LE. Busse's version has proven to be plenty tough, and they really hold an edge while not requiring the maintenance of SR101. But I have been able to keep my stripped Swamp Rats nice and shiny using Tuf Cloth.

I have several uncoated SR101 knives and have not had any rust problems. You just have to wipe them down and store them dry. I also use a Marine Tuf Cloth periodically (every six months or so wipe down) on all of my knives so maybe that's part of the solution.

I voted SR101. I've never been a big fan of stainless steel of any variety. I've always preferred carbon steel. But I would buy the S5 LE no matter what steel Dan ultimately ends up using. I'm hoping it might come with a convex edge? Please?

My ScrapMuk in 154CM has been very good, I have to admit that. It's changed
my mind about 154 completely. However, I voted for SR101. I really like that
steel, and keeping it free of rust is not an issue for me. After every use,
my knives get cleaned before being put away.

Since the CGs are in SR101, what's the point of an LE in SR-101? If it's shiny, I'd prefer it be stain resistant. The only way I'd vote for SR-101 is if it's laminated with 154CM.

I like that.

I am not so good about taking care of users (seen my pics ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) so a LE I would love to be in stainless or INFI <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
