I have the same problem with my DFLE turning colors from pine trees.

Horn Dog, I remember you mentioned something like wiping it down with paint thinner or alcohol to clean your blades? Can't remember exactly what it was.

Not sure about tree sap but I know acidic fruits definitely cause them....I cut oranges all the time and I get patinas on my blades - even stainless which I wouldn't think would happen...? It also discolors some of my coating on certain blades.

Leave the patina's on they really help protect the blade from rusting !!!

Alcohol will remove pine sap from your hands and blades even better than turpentine, which is surprising. As for removing sap stains, I polish them out with my buffing wheel.
