The dawgs have given you a lot of different ways to look at expanding your knife collection.
Let me offer one more. The size of the knife should scale with how remote your adventures are. If I'm going "deep woods" I want a decent chopper with me. If there's an emergency I want to know I can craft a shelter and stay warm. I'm not a fan of small axes and prefer a chopper as it is the more comfortable choice for me. The weather in the mountains is flat out unpredictable. And Mother Nature kills the unprepared with fearsome regularity.
For weekend trips where civilization is not that far away, an all-in-one S6 or Dumpster Mutt style knife is usually quite sufficient. As others have also pointed out, a smaller pocket knife a great complement to whatever other fixed blade knives you are carrying. The One Hand Trekker is my pocket knife of choice in the woods.

You are truly gentlemen. I had to tell the wife of the giving nature of the yard, my conundrum concerning the big chopper. Well I got the go ahead to pick up a blade for fathers' day. MustardMan let me know what I can do to facilitate such a process. I would absolutely love to get a Dog Father, but you are right, the secondary markup can be rather rediculous. Thanks for the advice concerning time management, and strength conservation during SHTF situations. I think that most of all sold me, and the wife on the NEED for a big mutha. Work smarter not harder.

If I get a chance to snag one at BLADE, I will do so - just shoot me a PM sometime soon after the show (which happens may 29-31) to see whether I got my hands on one or not. And if you come across a good deal on another knife in the meantime, go for it - I am sure I will have no problem finding a home for whatever I bring home from BLADE

a good thread and replies. Any Busse family, bigger blade would more than do the job, all made the best and we all know they will last our life-time and more. I personally think the Dogfather is the best chopper out there for quality and comfort of the Res-C handles because after awhile of chopping you'll feel it with micarta or G-10 or even wood. Res-C absorbs shock like nothing else. Eventually the Boss will re-release them and I hope many of our dogs will get one, I was very fortunate in getting one from a super generous member here, a great guy! (you know who you are bro) and Rainwalker made me the best Leather Sheaths I could ever hope to have! ![[Linked Image from i44.tinypic.com]](http://i44.tinypic.com/2vs2c8i.jpg) my DFCG and SS4 (I always post this!)

i agree with all the big chopper reasons posted so far. its better than an axe and is just BURLY and MANLY!! conan got nothing on me!
I got a FBM for my big chopper...i love it...literally... i sleep with it, talk to it. but i also love my SOD which can chop through 2x4s in 2mins (pre horn dog treatment).
dan i know people love the CT but you sure broke the mold when you made the SOD!
MM- right on for helping out us starving dogs...if i didnt order a M9 id try proxy for a DF but i need an LE blade....
ghost maybe we can meet up on those acres in UT build huts and practice bushcraft

Res-C absorbs shock like nothing else. +1. All things considered (including size, weight, toughness and ergonomics), the Dog Father is arguably the finest pure chopper ever produced by the Busse family. But for the best all-around chopper ever made, I choose the DFLE. Fast in the hand and a great chopper/machete. The shiny blade looks intimidating, too. I'll never part with mine! ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SYKCO/ScrubLake005.jpg)
