yeah I like the small choil compare to the big choil.
I assume you are referring to the smaller choil on the Mini Proto vs. the overly large and far into the blade choil of the Howler?
Yes. I agree. I like my Howler. But, the choil is just WAY too big and eats up WAY too much blade.
"IF" choosing between the two choil options., the Howler would have been better served with a "Small" choil like shown on the Mini vs. the overly large choil that came with the Howlers - "IF" having to chose between those two choil options. If the choil is too small (like the HRLM's choil was), I can grind it back up and into the guard/ricasso to suit my needs without loosing so much blade edge. AND the reach is better if closer and tighter into the handle - which I also prefer "IF" I want a choil.
BUT, I honestly think the Howler would be better "Without" any choil as well. I think the choil might help on the Howler in a very few occassions in tight/delicate/detail cutting. But, for the most part, the Howler's blade is plenty short without the choil and offers plenty of control for detail work without the choil. And for the most part, the choil just EATS up way too much of the Howler's blade.
But no choil is the best in Mini's case.
For me, "NO" Question - Especially on a Tanto. Just NO need for a choil. NO need to choke up and do detail work with that type of blade. None. It is NOT a skinner and not a "Craft" knife.
