.... I think one of the reason why the CT recieved a "legendary status" is that it's just the perfect knife for camping and go to knife for long hikes. It is somewhat light enough to be carry around all day and it can still do a good amount of wood chopping AND fine close up work. Any longer would be a pain to carry in the woods and any shorter would not go well with chopping.
I agree. And "Weight", balance, feel, etc.
And why I wouldn't want the Scrapweiler concept too thick.
I "Think" if kept close to 0.20" - 0.22" thick it would stay reasonably close in weight - maybe an ounce or two more, but would balance and feel way better than the Yard Guard by having the weight distributed better.
If the Camp Tramp is 14.5 ounces and the Yard Guard is 16 ounces, I think the Scrapweiler could be around 15.5 - 16.0 ounces if kept around 0.20" - 0.22" thick (????? - just speculating.)
I wouldn't be upset with the Scrapweiler concept being 7.5". But, I think it would be better closer to 8" - 8.5" and thinner - close to 0.20" - 0.22" thick.

As opposed to shorter and thicker (like the Yard Guard was.)
If too thick and/or too heavy, I think it becomes too much of a chopper that can't compete with the DFLE or BR and looses it's "Camp" use and Carry versatility - which I would HIGHLY prefer to maintain! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
IMO - the dropped point and improved choil design help in use for most tasks.
