On the serious side...I think the DMCG is gonna see some regular use and I'm glad you are gonna have a knife that will see you through the toughest of times.

When you deploy are you going to bring all your blades, or travel lighter?

An unused knife is not living the life it was meant to live. That's why I'm in the process of moving "most" of my Queens to more deserving homes.

I have one queen...sort of. Jerry gave me the orginal Battle Mistress for my collection...the first one ever and used in the testing. I am not affaid to use it but holding that much history gives me the shakes

I think all knives need to be used but I also think that there are knives that have extra meaning and there use maybe less than others

Anyway you look at it, knives are wonderful to have, hold, look at and use

Dan

the DMCGs at this point havent been used heavily as i havent had a task for them yet and im not breaking firewood into my apt to hack like one of the DDAWGS did on this forum, sorry!

If you've never used them, how can you feel comfortable constantly claiming the DMCG is the best, toughest, most awesome-est blade in the universe?

Not trying to be a jerk, but I've seen you make some incredibly definitive statements about these knives, and I find it a little worrisome that you would make those claims without any actual experience putting them through their paces.

I batoned a mini uncle mojo through a hardened masonry nail embedded in a good sized log, then re-profiled and resharpened the edge, all within the first few days of getting the knife, and I STILL wouldn't want to make any huge, sweeping claims about it in comparison to other blades, other than to say I'm very impressed with the knife's performance to this point.

its simple. i made the claim because of the ergonomics of the knife and its composition. the size of the blade, its thickness, the length of the blade, its saber-grind, it penetrator tip, etc... no other knife SY has made can rival this in terms of what it was built for, so henceforth, i have stated its the toughest knife scrap yard has made. if you think that a person has to personally do something to make a claim then you are wrong. look at some of the things that have been done to this knife. i was full within logic and my right to claim that the .50 cal is the best weapon we use in Iraq for mechanized infantry operations... i havent been to Iraq and i just fired one this past summer, but the fact that i stated this about the 50 cal was STILL FACT prior to me firing it and void of me using it in Iraq. this same rationale is applicable to the DMCG in context of this discussion.

Hey Reconseed you've been a great sport with this thread buddy ,I'm only yanking your chain a little eh !
Being serious though I have had many knives which I've drooled over when holding and looking at them but when I've actually gone out into the sticks and tried cutting stuff they have really let me down !
It doesn't matter how great a knife looks, if it won't cut what needs cutting then it ain't worth squat and without giving them some field time you will never know !!!!

Recon's DM may not win the fuzz stick competition, but I bet it will be tops for opening ammo boxes and cutting steel banding. Too bad that as an officer, he'll likely only supervise others doing that. He needs to test it now! Scratch that precious black crinkle coating some!

Yes, and this is why Vox has made me promise to beat the h311 outta the DF when I get it from him. Not really, but he is hoping that I will punish it a little...and I will try. I can't wait to get it in my hands. I have a Ranger RD-9 - Maybe a competition between the two is in order...I know HD has probably already done this but it'll be fun for me.

The Dog Father will out chop the RD9. The DFLE and RD9 are too close to call, but the DFLE is more comfortable to chop with. But what the heck. You're results may be different. Do it!

Mustard Man - I dont claim to have any credibility when it comes to knives, i just know what i have read and from what little i have used these knives. there are far more "credible" folks on this forum than I am yourself when it comes to Dan's knives. So, if i have "ruined" my credibility or am a "joke" on the Yard, well, Im sorry you feel that way. I have friends on the Yard here and I enjoy being here.

HD - Surely I will find SOMETHING to cut in the motorpool!

Dan - aint nothing wrong with having a blade ya dont use BOSS, you are right. Knives are important to each person on an individual basis.

I love using my SY knives, I just dont have the ability to go out and beat on them like HD and others do that are retired and have land. I live inside the city and cannot carry my knives with me "daily" persay. Hence, the reason i use my Busse SD the most is because I CAN carry it. I look forward to using the DMCGs and I am sure that they will serve flawlessly.

To any that have taken my support and enthusiasm for the DMCG as a "joke," please, I am sorry I presented it as a .... "joke."

The Dumpster Mutt is a soldier's knife, Recon. I'm sure that at some point in your career, you will have occasion to use such a knife. I broke a few Ka-Bars as an enlisted man opening ammo and such.

I say RS should do with his knives whatever he wants to...There are many different reasons we collect these knives and some of those reasons require use and others don't. If you are buying as an investment or as a collector - you would not use them. Possibly even if you were buying to hand down to your son or grandson you might not use - other than this, I would think you would use them for what they were intended....My problem is - I have too many knives and i live in the city so I rarely get the chance to use anything but my EDC. I do get to use them on an occasional fishing trip or hike but that isn't very often - not as often as i like.

So enjoy your knives RS - either through use or just by having something you really like and enjoy owning.

Reconseed getting to buffalo mountain park will only take a couple of minutes on that bike of yours eh ? Surely a soldier such as yourself could find a place in there to hide out and use your knives !
