Congratulations Clark! I have enjoyed messing with ya about the AF vs ARMY, but I DO have the highest admiration for you. Remember, It's not your rank but where you work and what you do that makes you a leder/boss. Just cause you out rank someone don't mean you know what's right. I learned this the hard way (but it still turned out ok). The art of being a good leader is keeping your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut until you NEED to say something.

Yup, i will be a PL of EOD soldiers within the 1st Infantry Division, 3rd Brigade Combat team.

EOD is a dangerous area RCS...experienced NCO's should be an asset...IED's kill more of our guys than anything else...having unexploded mortar rounds to contend with is bad enough but the ingenuity on IED's and how they are used is harsh and brutal ...you're a brave guy RCS...but always remember it is no weakness to listen to "old hands"...in reality you need a familiarization and learning curve for quite a while once on the ground...it's not just recognising and making safe these things...it's working out whether one is a "lure" to get you with something else...so good luck and stay safe... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

you are right about steelfan. its what ive wanted to do though and i am sure that my training i will receive will allow me to do my job safely. thebest lesson is from the experienced guys. my senior NCOs will be my lifeline, literally, and i cant wait to work with them and learn from them.

I have a question, and that is how come you don't wear head dress until after the swearing of your oath?
I presume there is a historical/traditional or ceremonial reason for this?

because prior to swearing in, you cant wear the beret that has the gold bar on it bc technically, you arent a 2LT until you take the oath of office. this is just done on the day you commission, prior to swearing in. normally, as a cadet you dont wear a beret... u just wear your patrol cap with your cadet rank on it. officers wear their rank on their cover, enlisted wear their unit crest.

You know, for a brief time, Armor and Cavalry troopers wore the black beret. I wore one at Ft. Knox. In most nations, armor wears the black beret. But the Rangers complained about it, so we had to quit wearing them. Now the Rangers have tan berets and the whole darned Army wears black berets. Personally, I prefer the patrol cap, which is nothing but the old Korean War era fatique cap that the Rangers called a patrol cap. I like the boonie hat even better. Or, as the Army officially calls it, "Hat, Sun, Hot weather, type II". Not too good with Class A uniform. A Stetson would be nice for that, if you're cavalry.
