Dan, can you tell us if this (I am thinking post test team feedback) is going to be a production knife that we should all be able to order this year, or will it be limited to a certain group, or potentially not released until later?

I am really amazed at the bitterness and angst in debating between SR77 and SR101. Bottom line: does one trust that Dan knows his metallurgy and treatments well enough to manage material selection for products that he is backing with lifetime warranty? You know, if we just put material availability and cost aside, the whole matter of performance can be reduced to science by those truly in the know. I am not one of them, but there are common factors to steels related to blade performance that can be analyzed by the scientists. I suspect that, given that several of those factors are counter-opposing, and thus must be balanced for the maker's desired "optimum" in overall blade performance, there is no single best material. It will ultimately come down to the individual owner's use of the blade as to the likely best material for that user, so the manufacturer must pick a most general balance that serves the broadest utility.

Again, I am no expert, but those are my general opinions and experience.

I think what we have is a Porsche (SR77?) vs. Lamborghini (SR101?) debate. One has slightly (in terms of what you have to pay to get it) better stats in some categories, the other is better in different categories. I do not think anyone would argue that either car would have great performance that is really far above the norm. But, there are those who just like Porsches better, some features, like all wheel drive, may only be available on that brand. Some like Lamborghinis better as the average Lambo (is there such a thing?) is a faster car then the average Porsche.

Since we have enough disposable income to purchase either we can afford to choose one that we will like much better then the other. If SR77 didn't exist I would think that most of its adherents would be thrilled with SR101. If SR101 did not exist I know I would be thrilled with SR77. Either way they are a nice alternative if we can not get INFI (Ferrari F40!)!

Though the new 430 Scuderia is just a freaking awesome car and may take its place as my all time favorite.

I'm chiminig in late here but I figure, better late than never . I love the design of the blade. I've never owned a bowie and this one looks to be a winner...except the thickness. For ME, a blade that thick is unnecessary. If I want a chopper, I'll look for a dog father. I believe the SOD fills the role of "survival" knife for me. I'm still looking forward to the S5 as it is a beautiful design that looks to be very usable. I'm still hoping for a necker. Cheap, but effective and useful

Good Gawd Bruce that thing is plain UGLY !!! plus it looks like an accident waiting to happen !! When you come up here you will have to jump in one of my SUVs as we go off road and that thing would get hammered. Plus- I would worry about you all the way up Interstate 5 thinking that maybe aliaens abducted you in that lil solar oven. On the other hand- I could trade you a knife for it and my grandkids could play with it till it broke all to hell. Where the hell would we carry all our toys plus my big ole dog !!Think it over please- we all want you around and would really worry if you bought one of those Thanks

Walking sounds great to me. I ran 3 miles this morning and now will hit the airdyne for an hour. I can see the value- the thing just scares me to death. If you want to live on the edge you can join me in the bottom of the Grand Canyon in September . You will get all the thrills - spills etc you might want. I am thinkin walking or bicycle as we like having you around please
