As a new member, soon-to-be-proud-owner of S5s and future Scrap Yard knives, I wanted to ask about the mega-chopper Dog Father. I'd like to eventually have something like these for use, but I was wondering if The Yard will ever wind back the clock and make another production run of that blade, or something akin to it? As I said before, I will not buy anything but Yard fixed blade knives, because I am stubborn that way, so I'd really like to figure out how to fill the mega-chopper void in my current capabilities. Is the secondary market the only way to get this done in the near term (next year or so)?

They usually have a few at Knob Creek. In April they had a few CG in tank, but they went fast.

I am in the same boat Raoul!!! I want a CGDF so badly...
I just picked up an original MINT Swamp Rat Battle Rat, which I guess is the next best thing.

If I get a DF, I am gunning for the LE - I've heard a lot better things about them compared to the CG
I think there was an LE SoD at BLADE, wish I'd nabbed that.

Does the satin finish on the LE really make that much of a difference in performance?

No, but the different grind makes a lot of difference. The blades are the same shape, but are ground differently. A full flat ground knife performs very differently from a saber grind.

Eventually the DogFather will be back, when is anybodies guess!? It is a SY Icon and really liked. The boss knows many really want one, I'm sure he has plans, but only he knows. It was offered up several times last year.
The LE is lighter and many say better balanced but I like my CG just fine, I like lots of forward weight when laying in lumber! Either are fine, tough blades that you'll be glad you have.

The description on the web site says the only difference is the satin finish. They should probably add the unique grind if that is the case just to be completely clear. Thanks for that additional info!
