Good point. In that case (the case that the LE's are a one time run, and limited means: we won't ever release these again) I'll take a CG in full flat. I like the CG prices better anyway

I own a DFCG and love it and would probably be in for a variant. I understand that LE stands for Limited Edition and I definitely think they shouldn't produce more of them....But why is it that all LEs are the uncoated blades and the CGs are the coated ones? Why not make limited edition coated blades and non-LE uncoated, etc.? Anyone know?

This confused me when I first came here because I knew all LEs were not coated and all CGs were, so when I found that CG stood for combat grade - I couldn't think of what LE might stand for that meant uncoated...I later found out it stood for limited edition.

There have been non-LE satin finish version. For example, I proxy'ed a Bird Dog that was satin, with a black handle, but not the numbered limited edition. There is also the double cut finish, which is uncoated and bead blasted.

One reason satin usually ends up on LE models is because it requires more work to make the nice finish, and thus costs more - natural fit for the higher-price limited editions.

Satin or Double Cut finishes are much harder to make, they take lots of time to do so I would guess that is one of the reasons for them being in the Limited Edition category.

When the boss was making the DFLE he told us how long/hard it was (labor of love of course) and how he was glad it was a one-time thing!

Yeah with these hard steels, the FFG has to really wear out the tools.

If I were stranded on a deserted Island and could only have one blade...It would be my DF...no question.

Yeah the DF and a couple of red heads would be nice . Maybe a blonde or two

just got me a red head coincidentally.

all DF's are revered and incredible performance for the money.

when it comes to chopping hardwoods, big logs and trees and stuff my DFLE stands alone.i think it DOES out chop the CG due to the added speed from being much lighter and the blade geometry of that full flat grind.

my NMFBM will throw bigger chunks but its slower and more labor intensive to use and bulkier to carry.

i never chopped with a FBM but i had a FFFBM and i think the DFLE out chopped that too in the long run.

the BR is nice and light like the DFLE but the DFLE out chops it a bit.

i'm rambling here.there all great.
