That is horrifying. I hope they catch and burn the people responsible. Do you know how many people were on the bus Lachine? How many survived?

Something that worries me is the number of people that are standing around or driving past. "Oh, hey, bus on fire. Time for lunch." <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I was thinking the same thing. It's disgusting to see how disinterested people seem. How can you just carry on with your day without doing whatever you could to help in whatever way you could. It was particularly disturbing to see everyone just walk right by the person who staggered to the ground in the middle of the street. Unbelievable and very saddening.

That is very prevalent in todays society, people not wanting to get involved or helping others. People have been raised and taught that the Police, Fire, military, gubmint etc will take care of such things for them and to not get involved.

I have even noticed that when i try to help peopel out (say at the side of a hiway where their car is broken down) they freak out. I once pulled over to assist a young women who had a flat tire. She rolled up her window, locked her door and screamed at me to get away. Then she called the Police. An Officer showed up and questioned me. I showed him the tire jack and jackstands in my truck, and that i had offered to change the ladies tire and that she freaked out. The Officer asked the girl why she called 911 on a person who was obviously trying to help her out. Girl replied thats what her dad told her to do. No life skills , no common sense.

made me sick.

Well to play devil's advocate, some people my not help because of fear f litigation.

I am pretty sure there has been at east one case where someone removed someone from a car accident.

The person in the accident ended up a para or quadriplegic and sued the person who got them out. The accident victim won, so the person who was trying to help presumably had to pay damages etc.

IN some jurisdictions there are good samaritan laws that will protect you from that sort of liability if you attempt to help some one in good faith, but then again in other jurisdictions your wide open.

I think in a case like where there is a very clear evidence that the person would die or their injuries would become far worse from further risks inherent in the scenario, e.g. fire in the vehicle, vehicle on a busy railway track, I'd try and get them out, control bleeding, whatever was appropriate regardless of other consideration, but if it was a simple motor vehicle accident or flat tire, flat battery etc I think I'd leave them to themselves unless they some how indicated they wanted help - e.g. were screaming/asking for help, or gesturing.
In this day and age, unfortunately looking out for others can end up putting more than just your own life and limb in danger.

firebalx15 is correct. A lot of people do not help out of fear of being sued.

FEAR.

That is whats wrong with Society today.

we live in a FEAR BASED and FEAR TAUGHT society. Don't do that you will get sued, don't do this, thats our job not yours. FEAR. FEAR. FEAR.

not to mention the APATHY <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

WHAT? If you don't help out for fear of being sued you would at least look conflicted and not entirely apathetic. Most of those people didn't even give a second glance to what was going on. They weren't afraid of being sued, they were just disinterested because it didn't affect them. In a case where someone doesn't help someone else who's life is at risk (aside from doing something stupid like pulling them out of a car and causing further spinal injury) for fear of being sued later, is almost as bad as just not wanting to be bothered (as looked to be the case for most who were passing by in the video).
